Introducing the Grapple Hook with Rope: an innovative tool revolutionizing traversal and interaction in your adventures. Unlike the latest concept “The Grapple Shot” which looks and sounds too much like a Eye of Reach and would require no skill to use, graciously granting the worst deck shot attempts to be granted, or loot to be sniped off your ship at unstoppable speeds, the Grapple Hook with Rope tool demands genuine skill and precision, adding a new layer of strategy to your gameplay.
With a limited range, the need to wind it up to throw further distances, and the requirement to successfully attach the Grapple Hook in anchoring locations, mastering the Grapple Hook requires practice and finesse. Whether scaling cliffs, boarding ships, tripping and pulling in other players or retrieving treasures, each throw is a calculated maneuver. Aim carefully to avoid missing your throw or you will have a cooldown pulling in your grapple hook and will have to try again.
But the excitement doesn't end there. Engage in thrilling battles of wit and dexterity as you attempt to cut your opponents' ropes, thwarting their advances or escaping their clutches. Will you emerge victorious, or will your fate be left hanging by a thread? The choice is yours in this dynamic world of high-stakes adventure.
"Picture this: wielding a grapple hook with precise aim. you throw it at the mast of a ship across from you while cannons are going off from either side, swinging from your ship to another for a daring boarding maneuver. It's the epitome of pirate adventure, evoking the thrill of the high seas. Rare, this is the stuff legends are made of - let's make it a reality!"
Notes: Introducing a new tool called the grapple hook with rope. Unlike the current grapple shot concept that seems it could be abused by even the worst deck shot attempts and requires hardly any skill besides aiming and shooting or instantly pulling in objects and loot at insane speeds (super unrealistic), this one would require actual skill, practice and precise aim. It has a limited range, meaning it can only be thrown short to mid-range distances. Before you throw it, you have to wind it up to give it enough force, determining how far it is thrown. It's perfect for climbing up rocks or cliffs, or even throwing over to a ship to board, but it won't hurt other players. Instead, if you aim it at another player, it might knock them off balance or give you the ability to pull them closer to you.
Besides climbing, and aiming at players, you can also use it to pull things towards you at realistic speeds, like treasure or objects you need. And if you throw it across a gap, you can walk along the rope to get to the other side. But here's the tricky part: you have to aim it really carefully and precisely, reducing the gracious opportunities for skill lacking players being able to board your ship and drop your anchor after completely missing their deck shot. If you miss your throw and it doesn't attach to an anchoring point that it would normally hang up on, you'll have a cooldown period pulling in your rope before you can wind the grapple hook back up and try again.
Now, onto cutting ropes. Imagine someone throws their grapple hook at your ship, and you don't want to be pulled in or boarded by rope crossing thieves. You could try to cut the rope with your sword or throwing knife. But it's not easy—you'd have to hit the rope multiple times to make it break completely. This would give you a chance to escape if you're caught, or if you're walking across a rope and someone tries to cut it from the other side thus making you fall.
Thank you RARE for an amazing 2024 Preview and for the past several years of the seas. I am super super excited to see what happens this next year with this wonderful game, hope this suggestion reaches you guys and inspires some more ideas!
