2024 Preview Event

  • HOLY MOD EDIT, BATMAN!!

Rare, Seasons 12, 13, and 14 sound INCREDIBLE!! THANK YOU for taking the time to update the sandbox!! I am absolutely ecstatic about everything you guys have planned!! I can't wait for all of this to eventually be released!! Just if you have to delay anything for whatever reason, please just keep the content of the roadmap in place (I LOVE the Metal Gear Solid-inspired stuff you want to add to the game!! That is quintessential Sea of Thieves if you ask me!!)

    Congrats on six years, guys!!

  • I'm not the hype guy around these parts, I'm the rambling rambler in the corner scribbling optimism on the forums when it seems necessary.

2024 looks fun, oh fun, welcome home to sea of thieves.

Nothing that I saw concerns me as a big picture kind of observer.

I hope performance improves significantly but I've always known the devs and everyone involved are passionate about this product and this experience.

The future looks bright for Sea of Thieves in 2024.

Now please excuse me while my game crashes before I crash into a rock.

  • I'm so beyond excited. I've felt the seasons around 9 and 10 have been a little bland. I've never given up hope. There's something so magical about SoT as an experience, and these upcoming seasons look to be so worth the wait! Imagine a harpoon board, and while you're midway through the walk, your opponent shoots the harpoon, disengaging it. I love how EVERYTHING impacts boarding. In my opinion, boarding hasn't felt balanced. If players are good enough, you're just gonna get ladder guarded and while there are workarounds, you can't do much. For example, in hourglass yesterday, my buddy went for a board and I told him to hold on a sec because he was being ladder guarded. I oneballed the guard and told him he was good to climb the rest of the way. Or, you can pump enough holes that they have to go bucket eventually. But again, good enough players will utilize teammates if they have them, blunder bomb you off ladder, or shoot you off from the side. Boarding is a very narrow process if that makes sense. I feel like there's so much more opportunity now. I want that grapple gun! It might be a bit more balanced if it replaces a weapon slot so really you'd trade one combative weapon for the maneuverability, but that'll change boarding forever still! Even the bone callers! Hit an enemy ship with that before a board to give them more to do! Ugh, anyway, I'm hyped. And I'm beyond excited to show all these new PS5 players the ropes and maybe swindle a few out of their loot too 😉

  • @lucky11 HOLY MOD EDIT INDEED!

    How good was that?!?!

  • I think I have a somewhat unique experience with this because I've never been an insider and I actively try to avoid any leaks and a lot of the "speculation"

    I found it comforting.

I always found it unpleasant to be in a spot of not wanting to know but always being surrounded by people that do know and I observe way too much for that to be a pleasant experience lol.

So it's nice to just kinda know and not have "speculation" dodging being such a part of my experience now.

I'm sure there is plenty left out and I'll probably disagree with some of it and not like some of it but I prefer this over them not doing anything and the roadmap.

I hope they do this again for future years, seems far more pleasant for people on the outside, imo.

  • in before triple barrel replaces double gun meta.

    Windcaller is OP.

Where are all my pets? worst update ever.

No PVP focused players are allowed to complain about PVP being neglected for a year. At least lol.

If performance and the experience improves in 2024 then a lot of the very skilled players will spend more time in HG, which really keeps clashing in adventure to a minimum

The game always has a lot of new and casual players but ps5 will have impact on the ecosystems for servers, so for a while quite a bit of the combat should be more casual fun leaning than any sort of serious pvp meta.

This year should be pretty fun for pvp. There are a lot of "ifs" in that but I think it'll be alright for the year.

This won't be like when chainshots were introduced. That was too much power and too much quantity released on an environment where too many people were struggling.

All this new stuff is being introduced in an environment that is far far more sustainable because of the QoL that has been added.

New console players, new weapons, new toys to play with in the sandbox, not an excessive amount of pvp right now.

On top of that all of us that didn't rush season 11 still have stuff to do there as well while enjoying the new stuff.

I think it'll all be more fun this year. I like that it feels like they are just adding rather than taking away.

  • Everything looked really, really good. One of the most exciting updates they've released for sure.

I do wonder about the grappling gun though. It's my only doubt. People are already way too eager to board at the slightest chance. Using the harpoon line as a bridge looked fair, I think we've all thought about that for a long while. But the grappling gun felt like a step too far after that. Then again, every thing I haven't been sure about so far in previous updates ended up being fine once it released, so not worrying much.

  • Imo this preview event was a smart move, they gave us Xbox/PC players enough to be pumped and prepared a world where new PS5 players can find themselves without many questions about ongoing adventures or obscure part of the lore.

The one thing about the grapple gun is that it looks like you are sacrificing a weapon slot to equip it.

That might not be a downside if you can just swap it out at the other crews armory once you've boarded though.

Yeah good point. Still, the worst part about boarders is that you need to deal with an unpredictable threat, a person, on the ship. One pirate launching themselves at you like that is all a second boarder needs to use the ladder while everyone is looking for the first guy and then you're screwed.

I suppose it also means that everyone can board others just as easily... so leaving your ship alone or undercrewed may be riskier than before. We'll see.

  • Staring at the Season 13 announcement

"... You crazy sons'a flintlocks, you did it..."

Link to a thread of mine, four years ago:
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/123530/man-o-war-the-mobile-skeleton-fort

While not exactly the same in concept, it's very exciting to see an iterated version of it actually coming!! AND SO MUCH BETTER, too! (while incorporating several others' ideas for a Man'O War style ship, too) This entire presentation has me so very excited, every single new feature was such a fantastic addition to the Sea of Thieves, I would be lying if I said I wasn't vibrating in my seat for features upcoming this year!

  • I actually cried for joy when I saw Season 13 content. It's basically what I always dreamed since I saw the Reapers, Flameheart and the Burning Blade for the first time.

  • That grapple gun to board enemy ships is gonna be a beast! Can taste the tears from the squeakers already.

  • What we saw for Season 12
    New Tools & Weapons

    • Double Flint

Frankly, idk about this. With how exploits in the game are, this gonna be another pain thing to deal with

    • Throwing knives

First few months will see everyone using it. But afterwards I dont see this being meta. Maybe 1 member on a crew has them just because "Cool"

    *Scatter Shot

Yeah. Its a thing that does multiple damage to ships. As someone pointed, Solo play is gonna be trickier with this. Unless they make them Unpurchasable and harder to find.

    • Bone Caller

Funny item. My thought is, how many can spawn from a crew? If Galleon with all crewmates use it...does it spawn more or only 3? How OP are they?
and I am Sorry! but if we can spawn these on SHIPS! how come we havn't had Ocean Crawlers jump on our ships yet!

    • Wind Caller

So for those chasers and Runners...we have this thing.
as well, someone boards your solo ship, they can easier push you off? Yep....
If the sound it make is quiet, I can see people uses this in the water (as shown) to sneak up on ships. Here comes the tuckers 2.0

    • ZipLines
Yup. As many have asked for this, I dont see many using them much. They are silly yes but really? Meh
I hope they remove some of the ladders then since we wont be using them :P

    • Balance Harpoons

So we can Tight rope walk? Wonder how this would function during moving objects (shown not good enough) surely it wont be easy or that be just horrible design. Waves bouncing, cannons firing. You see someone walking, turn the ship sharply ;P Or Carry stuff??
8:27 on video, Im sorry...but that! is steep...and they are walking without issue.

    Season 13

    • Burning Blade

So we..."Defeat" the ship and we become the crew? That weird thing. (doesnt sink on first defeat??)
I like the fact the ship activity sails around the world. Hope it doesnt remove Skeleton ships or Meg spawning. (or Kraken) and the Crew is now the World Event....(control the ship) yeah that wont end well for newbie players and those just doing Voyages. Since it seems you cant Sink it (atm)

    • Skeleton Camps

Nice. New islands? or just updated locations. So far I dont like the fact you have to be part of the Burning Blade Crew just to do these. Sure they said you can do them regardless but they didnt say if you can explore the Ancient secrets and also get the Orb at the end and maybe deliver to Pirate Lord, prevent FH from getting them :p

    Season 14
So pretty much...Season for the Tuckers or the Return of the Trap Master

    • Blow Dart
      Cool.

    • Throwble Traps
      Meh

    • Harpoon Gun
I can already seeing this by far the craziest thing. One, harpooning a "Chest" which is heavy...
and of course...Boarding. Unless they introduce more ways to "Prevent" or at least stop it. Yeah keep it on the drawing board.
Too many attacking items, not enough defense.

Well, My Story in the SoT does not include some of these things. It be more of a firepit story I heard someone tell me about and dont wish anyone to encounter.

But I only wish for 1 thing...."Lore/Story" that explains how we came across these new things.

  • I know, I have never been this excited before. My favorite incoming feature is easily the skellie grenades. I can’t wait to cause some chaos… I wonder, can you throw multiple of them doen snd create a skellie army? I hope so…

Its too overpowered IMHO. May be if it could be some hand throved grappling hook with a rope with same climbing speed mechanic like ladder speed climbing it would be nice one but with climbing speed like spider-man - ita little bit cringe
