@gunnner1 I think they know that their fix didn't work because there is no "completed" mark on their post)
Crashes after game update (Xbox PC app) (FIXED)
Hello, I wish I could help with the crashes on how to fix it as I am a returning player looking forward to play again but everything I tried did not work. Kind of a dope season 12-14 preview trailer they dropped just for the game to be un-playable is not great. I will let you all know what I've tried and tested so far in hopes someone else can figure out the cause. I do not know if steam has the same issues as I run the Microsoft store version of the game.
Anyways, I have tried re installing the game 2 times, which the second time I put on a new drive. I ran the game as administrator each time. I tried switching Direct3D 12 to Direct3D 11 in game. I terminated, repaired and reset the Microsoft store app and Sea of thieves with a PC restart and still had persistent crashes. I would not recommend, but I even disabled Easy Anti-cheat temporarily with Task manager to see if it was the cause because it is a newer thing for Sea of Thieves. Still, persistent crashes though. That is as far as I was willing to go, hopefully someone finds this useful and Rare can get a fix out asap!
I'm just trying to draw some conclusions here, maybe I'm wrong. But the official support did say the update to fix the crashes are server-side and not client-side, which really strikes my mind (I have a little bit of experience in software development especially bug-analyzing, as I currently work in a software-support department) because it seems unintuitive that a server-side bug crashes a client completely to desktop. I'm not saying its impossible, just seems very unlikely. As a lot of people have pointed out who dug a bit deeper, it actually seems that the new anti cheat client (EAC) in combination with the game from xbox store crashes.
There is ofc the possibility that the server wants to communicate with the EAC and for some reason, the communication is interrupted, so the client shuts down as a safety measure. Think about it as maybe a failed security check.
However, they are now running the maintenance on the servers, so if there is a chance it actually was a server-side issue and the support was right, that they already have a fix, then hopefully this maintenance is to implement that fix.
I do trust Rare and I wont judge further until I tried it out later and see if it worked or not. I'm just getting a bit pessimistic and frustrated, because it feels like we already got robbed of another gold and glory event. And if you remember, this is really not the first time that a big part of the community is missing out an community event because of issues..
Edit: There is now an update (1.9 GB) in the MS Store.
@marcopdiaz 1.1h without crash, yesterday 5 crash in 30 minutes. At the same time i connected steam to the xbox app (I say this to say it all but I don't think it's relevant, it's the repair that I think took effect)
Just installed the game after years off hearing about new update. Took forever to just get it running. Learn everything. Go on first emmesary and collect level 5. get back to outpost and game crashes the second i go to hand first skull. And thanks saved me the time i woulda wasted playing this game. uninstalled for good. 3 hrs solo sailing destroyed 2 ships solo. didnt get to collect $1 lmaooo joke game see ya
This issue is absolutely NOT FIXED. I have been dealing with crashes nearly constantly, roughly 1 or 2 an hour. Sometimes it will give me the "Graphics driver crashed" error, usually it just black screens or dumps me back to my desktop. If I'm just sailing in open waters, this is merely an annoyance as I can reconnect to my session by launching the game again. However, the game decided to crash while I was fighting a skele galleon. I returned to find my sloop and 3 hours of loot sunk. This is infuriating. It's hard enough keeping my ship afloat with other players about, I do not need the game conspiring against me.
Yes, my drivers are the latest, done with a clean install.
