Make updates not start automatically if they are too big (microsoft store) (windows 10)

  • I think automatic updates are a good thing but I have an issue with it. ↓
So with the new 100gb update (atleast 100gb on microsoft store) it started automatically (I believe it started when I turned on my pc), when I opened sea of thieves I saw my progress of about 44.4gb, (55.6gb left), I knew I didn't have enough space for the rest of the update, I had 36.5gb left of space (and still do because I paused the download), which is not enough for the rest of the update. this would have been a problem if I didn't want to play SoT that day.

Im just going to say i don't know how computers handle running out of space or stopping an update halfway through and that type of stuff so im not taking any chances.

If anyone knows how to get out of this predicament without hurting my files, also preferrably without re downloading SoT because it is a pain, that would be cool

  • i have a question. why is the windows store version so darn big? does it have to download 2 full installs? makes literally no sense why the xbox version is less than half that size when xbox is a pc.... windows store version is just a port. is the windows store version just uncompressed and the xbox version is compressed? or is anti cheat only on the pc version so the windows store version is crazy bloated because were all obviously filthy hackers? though from what i could see on google ez anti cheat doesnt take up that much more space

  • @bluss2905 i believe this is a setting within windows and/or the windows store

  • @keylessword4029 the last two patches are so big because of the new GDK.

This meant the game had to be repackaged, this should have been only one full reinstall, however due to a slight mistake it had to be done again. And unless something else went wrong future updates should be significantly smaller

  • @callmebackdraft Thank you!
