Remove Fog

  • There seems to be only bad things said/experienced with the addition of the white fog. I feel as though this feature could have merit in the future if only updated to not be easier to see through. I can understand the addition, but the pendulum swung too far on this "feature", we need less fog (or make it less dense).

  • I always found it super cool and rare enough to where it doesn't feel like it's too much. Awesome atmosphere.

Really can help support interesting cat and mouse scenarios.

  • Fog emote: cut a circle out of the fog and eat it...

  • @wolfmanbush completely agree! I stole a chest of Fortune from a Reaper who didn't see me sneak up right next to them in the fog, we were literally a ship length distance from each other, it was awesome! The fog is great.

  • I will never forget my first week? playing this game, sailing the fog and crashing into another player ship head-on. It was a great laugh for both crews tbh, though I can see how it could go sour (mostly HG fights).

  • MORE fog!

  • The fog is a god send to new players I can't count the amount of times I've chased someone into fog only to be met with a beach in full wind, and it goes both ways if I'm suffering in a fight and see fog I turn into it to give myself time to reset and even escape its actually one of the most useful things in the sandbox, you should learn to use it rather than complain about it same goes for the devil's roar if you're being chased by a galleon go to an active volcano they soon give up!

It use to be so less fog, many players forgot it was even a thing. They only what 2 updates ago increase its spawning.

And its meant to be difficult, like the Storm, but that why we have Crowsnest to see past everything :P

    • Either they played HG and spawned with Fog or they crashed into too many rocks xD
  • Its not very difficult to traverse, especially now that rocks are so loud that even a deaf pirate would manage to hear them. As long as you keep your ears open and eyes on the map, its pretty hard to crash in the fog, just raise to half once you are within your islands banner.

  • Never.

Fog is one of the greatest environmental features of the game and it's exactly as thick as it needs to be.

I've cashed in stolen loot thanks to that fog.

Setting aside HG for obvious reasons, storms and fog have only added to the "adventure" feel of the Adventure experience. I like both.

That said, it's been suggested in the past that Rare should give us more variety in weather. Not entirely removing the storm and fog, but giving us varying intensities of rain and such. This, imo, could also add to that "adventure" feel, as it'd be less predictable.

However, on the list of things that I'd like the devs to focus on, "weather variety" is going to be somewhere near the bottom.

  • I like the the fog. It has its advantages and disadvantages, which is what makes it great. You can hide in the fog and hope no one sees you, or you can ram into someone/something if you’re not careful.

Having to raise my sails slightly so I go slower and don’t ram anything to fast is a part I like doing, it adds to the atmosphere.

If the whole map was fog, I’d get it. But to me it kind of works like the storm, you can see it before you enter it and so you have an option of whether you want to avoid it or not.

Also fog shouldn’t be easy to see through. I feel that’s the whole point.

  • @terriblebike58 no the Fog should be thicker I wanna be sail through soup!

    a few tips tho
•use it to lose crews chasing you
•when chasing a crew that sails into fog get inventive with finding them
•you have a map you can miss islands
    •the fog isn't that common it's fine(not a tip but still)

  • Definitely see that many people love the fog. I can understand the yearning for a more "real" environment, and I can also admit that some fog can be a fun way to spice up gameplay. What I can't seem to wrap my head around is the idea that the fog is "balanced" as it is now. I seem to run into fog any time I play longer than about an hour at a time (much more frequently than the storm rolls around). Unlike the storm however, the fog is slow to dissipate, envelopes 1/3 of a region, and, as stated elsewhere, only serves to "slow" gameplay forcing players to use audio ques for unmarked rocks (which always work right?), running up the mast (doesn't work as a solo where you prefer to be on deck working controls), constantly checking the map, or my favorite: setting the bow (or oneself) on fire to cheat the system into letting you see through it. I hope to see a slight change to allow one to avoid this phenomenon or at least make it more of a skill based challenge to deal with.

I just did a Fort of Fortune today while being hunted by some other ship in the distance, when fog suddenly enveloped us. We couldn't know if they were still lurking around, or in case they decided to approach the fort, from which direction they'd come. It made the whole event far more interesting than it would've been otherwise. Fog is a great addition to this game.

If you say you run into it all the time, either it's a crazy coincidence or you're unconsciously exaggerating your memory of it because it was an inconvenience to you at the time. It really is not that common.
