Just sold a lot of loot (Athena's), that would normally have gotten me around 250k-500k. But, everything was selling for super low (like 2-3 times lower than normal price). Which is already weird but on top of that it's community day, and its grade 4 so I should be getting around double.
Loot not selling at full price
Probably has something to do with this: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/166320/community-weekend-temporary-changes/1

Stop cheesing that and cheese something else.

"Hey everyone, to combat exploitation we're making the game a little worse for everyone this community weekend!"
HG can always use some bonus support but as far as random adventure goes they have cut so much time out of stuff, made things so convenient, made gold and rep so much easier to earn that they didn't ruin anything.
Gold/rep bonuses are excessive at this point imo. They'll likely keep doing them but this isn't making random adventure play any worse.
The nerf was HG fallout?
HG that's borked to Sea of the Damned an back? (I don't touch that, but I do listen)
I know us SoT players are a devious lot...but lolwut?
Nah, the nerf was Sea Fort related.
Edited for safety
Supposedly, it's been a know glitch for weeks (I only learned about it a couple of days ago, and only because someone mentioned it on reddit), and videos of exploiters bragging have started appearing online these past few days.
Hence Rare's debatable reaction.
Delete those last couple of paragraphs. Like right after "sea fort related" lol. Gotcha. Too paranoid of staying in one place too long.
Eh. I edited it, but it's been nerfed, by now, and SOT's reddit, discord and twitter have been openly talking about it for hours, so... shrug.

Cheesing is always all over but when guilds were doing some stuff they essentially let it be known "knock if off, it'll get rolled back"
Imo that's a decent way to handle cheesing/exploiting generally.
Early detection, communication to the community to cut it out or possibly face progress rollbacks, then gives them time to fix/change stuff while making it clear that it's not something that is good for the game.
Seriously disagree with Rare's decision on how to handle this for the community weekend. I tried doing a treasury for Athena and the crates don't even sell for 500 gold. Literally a third of the loot is nerfed, it's the better loot for that voyage........and it's a voyage that doesn't have anything to do with the exploit afaik.
I was looking forward to making some good progress on the Athena distinctions, but this really just throws a wet blanket on the whole thing before I could even get started.
I would've much rather seen them temporarily disable diving to sea forts if they're the source of the issue. The path they chose affected multiple voyages for everyone.
@captain-coel don't bother with anything Athena except hourglass. I think Ashen loot might be affected as well, but that could also be limited to just the vaults.
I've also heard some merchant stuff might be reduced.
@d3adst1ck Thats unfortunate. Before Community day weekend, Ashen Athenas were fun as heck
Here's the thing, many are calling exploit a bad thing and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Definition 1 - (Verb) make full use of and derive benefit from (a resource).
Definition 2 - (Noun) a bold or daring feat. or the more sinisiter version - a software tool designed to take advantage of a flaw in a computer system, typically for malicious purposes such as installing malware. This "exploit" is nothing more than people playing a pirate game as a pirate trying to exploit players, island, and the game itself.
This "exploit" was allowed by Rare and because they didn't make the keys specific to the session/sea-fort. Did they not expect people to figure this one out? Is this really different that stacking FOTD? Seriously???This is a pirate game and the whole goal is to exploit everything to achieve gold and renown. This is a function of the game that Rare built.
Rare should have tipped their hat at the discovery and not nerfed the value for everybody. It was Rare that allowed this to happen and now they are punishing everybody.
Bad form Rare... Bad form!!!

Is this really different that stacking FOTD? Seriously???Yes because for getting multiple FoTD loots you actually had to complete the fotd not just grab loot, die, grab loot, die, grab loot, die, grab loot.

Yes you are correct let the players create so much lot that it created server instability impacting ALL other user on that server and further more with the amount of loot items generated it actually started impacting the machines the servers are running on.
Yes mate, let them tip their hats to players not only undermining the expected reputation gain but also actually creating issues for ALL other players in the game (not even talking about the nerf here)
Why do you think we saw an extreme increase in crashes ?!? Yes because the servers where not made to contain 1000’s and 1000’s of pieces of loot at the same time
Bad form Rare... Bad form!!!
Bad knowledge on why it was done @Ausrakay…. Bad knowledge
Do you have a source for that claim? Genuine question, because the majority of the complaints about crashes over the weekend were client side and xbox-specific.

On XSX I was seeing crashes before the exploit was published and I am seeing crashes since the nerf.
@purplefiftytwo the server stability was actually atrocious, very many ping spikes etc.
The reports i have seen in passing where not just hard crashes but also marble beards etc
Most if not all streamers where noticing the server issues.
And like i said the exploit was generating ALOT of individual items in a quick rate. From recollection people where creating 100+ loot items per 20 minutes, that would be 300+ items per hour per exploiting crew
You do not need many crews at that point to overload the servers in a couple of hours.
People where stacking this for ages (due to the ease of this) basically waiting for grade v community modifier.
I've seen many complaints about hard crashes, primarily on Xbox. But all saying they could rejoin (just sometimes losing their captaincy). No mentions of marblebeards on these forums at least.
Where's your source of data on server stability? You say it was atrocious with terrible ping. Anecdotally, you say all the streamers were complaining about it. Do you watch them all and take notes?! I've been reading all the threads on here since the start of the weekend and I just don't see server performance being mentioned as a common theme. Which is unusual, because it often is on community day!
I think you're making a wild supposition to sound like you know what you're talking about and then rudely accusing @Ausrakay of lacking knowledge.
@purplefiftytwo i gather my info as follows:
Sot reddit
Twitter
Sot discord
All other discord communities i became a part of in my almost 6 years playing this game
Multiple streamers, no i dont watch all of them but quite a few.My final sentence was just a dig at his own wording towards Rare, alot of people simply put the blame towards Rare, however Rare had a burning ship and needed to do something at a time where minimal employee resources where available.
I find it bad form to just start calling out the devs like that without taking all sorts of variables into account
Right, so no evidence that there was server instability; just hearsay. And even if there was, no proof that it was caused by the exploit.
@purplefiftytwo i dont know where you are trying to get to, but it is a well known and proven fact and previous issue, with an LoTV exploit that alot of loot = server instability.
So its not just anecdotal evidence/information also previous experience and shared intel where stuff went wrong before.
There was also an increase in allabasterbeard errors on the 24th (shared by sot themselves) And issues with joining the game on the 25th again shared by sot themselves
Not trying to get to anywhere. You made a strong claim while telling someone they lacked knowledge, I asked for a source of evidence that the exploit had caused server stability because I'm genuinely interested. You've failed to provide any, only supposition, so here we are!
@purplefiftytwo said in Loot not selling at full price:

@PurpleFiftyTwo did provide evidence, it just wasn't evidence you want to acknowledge. What do you want, them to provide in depth numbers from Rare about the state of their servers over the weekend? No one has the actual numbers and belittling them for it is asinine.
I always hate when people use this tactic on this forum.......asking for the evidence a person used to come to their conclusion and then discrediting it when it isn't official numbers only the devs would know.
Why not ask a bit more about what they saw specifically in the discord or streams they mentioned? Instead of saying it simply doesnt count since they don't have access to internal dev info? Yeah, their info isn't conclusive......but (repsectfully) as a member of the community it's a decent place to start the conversation, not a point by which to shut someone down.
Just my opinion.
Honestly, I thought I'd missed an official announcement!
I don't have a problem with opinions, or weighing up the balance of probabilities based on some data points. I don't have an issue with debating whether something is likely either. I'm always happy to agree to disagree on a subjective point. But when someone states something as a fact, my standards for evidence go right up. YMMV.
@CallMeBackdrafT
Just keep blaming the players and not the game developers. Server problems, "exploits", and high ping spikes.. Not the players fault.Community day is always planned and there are always complaints about performance. Remember Microsoft of a large company with loads of compute power. They should be able to handle the extra load on the servers.
@callmebackdraft
Blame the developers.. Damn straight!! They didn't make the storage room on the sea forts specific to the fort.. And, that is FACT!Players had nothing to do with that...
