again this. My friend can't play anymore. HOW DO WE FIX THIS? He has already updated everything, nvidia drivers, game, windows update, EVERYTHING. It was a bug of 4 years ago and now it is back. He also tried to unistall the game and get it back but nothing. . .This error occurs only with sea of thives, all the other games work correctly (both steam games like phasmophobia, others like league of legends) come on guys...
Video driver crashed and was reset ! make sure your video drivers are up to date , exiting...
@saltanuvolee Ahoy matey!
Get your friend to change their Direct X settings using the following guide.
They need to follow option 2.
Hopefully, this should get them back sailing again!

This is what I came here to find. Thank you! I'll submit a ticket if it doesn't work. CHeers
@musicmee Hi, I'm having the exact same problem, since I can't get in game as the error message pops up before the game starts I was going to use option 2, however I'm using the Xbox app not Steam. How would I go about doing that?
If it helps I have pretty bad pc but SoT was working fine not all that long ago (a few months give or take)
@abyssalsteve999 Actually, I think we have to do this ---
Modify the ini file. In a text editor open the file corresponding to your version of the game.
Windows Store: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Athena\Saved\Config\WinGDK\GameUserSettings.ini
Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Athena\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini
Find this line:
D3DVersion=12
and change it to:
D3DVersion=11But...I have no idea what this means. Can somebody with more know-how explain this step by step? I can't find that Localappdata file.
As thread necro (reviving of old topics) is not permitted as per forum rules, we will go ahead and drop anchor on this here. Thank you.
