Ship combat as a solo player

  • How are you supposed to shoot the cannons steer the ship at the same time?!

  • That is one of the many skills a solo player has to learn and why playing solo is considered hardmode.

  • Solo slooping is not easy, but doing it will make you a better player overall faster. It can be overwhelming from the start, but with experience, you will only get better.

The sloop is fairly forgiving too, as it has many bonuses:

    • it is the smallest ship, so it's more difficult to hit
    • it is very nimble and easy to maneuver
    • it requires 2 chain shot hits to the mast to bring it down
    • it has faster respawn times, especially when solo
    • it has a safe spot that does not take damage when hit (where the stairs are), and back holes leek much less, because they're higher
    • it is the fastest ship when going directly against the wind, so with skill and experience, you can escape anyone
    • you can look at the map almost directly from the wheel, just turn around and look down
    • cannon barrels are very close to cannons themselves
  • Its not easy at first, but its very possible. You just have to get a sense for how far to turn the wheel so it doesnt turn too far while you do what ever you need to.

I have been playing solo for years, and remember well some time back when another solo player was sure that i was a duo because of my reaction time to get from cannons to raise the mast again. It all boils down to practice.

  • @foambreaker But the sloop is supposed to be MADE for solo players

  • @ferroushornet01 The sloop is made for two players, but can be sailed solo with practice.

  • Everything you've ever improved at required the same formula to improve, different strategy, same formula

Dedication, patience, effort, practice practice and more practice, messing up for the lesson and implementing the lesson for efficiency.

You have unique strengths and you have different obstacles than others. I wouldn't compare to others, I wouldn't imitate others. Put in the time and you will improve in a way that is right for you, you' know it's right for you because you have all the data. We can only offer general advice.

Outcome is what it is, it varies, it's random, lots of times it's out of your control.

Practice to compete with yourself, you will improve, you will have highs and lows of performance, that all is what it is.

You can lose every fight you ever have and still be a winner. Winning is outlook, going back to the drawing board, embracing the challenge, building yourself up.

This isn't a pvp game, it's an adventure game with fighting in it, some of that is pve and some of that is pvp. Play in a way you enjoy and practice in that style, that's your style, that's ultimately what you are fighting for, your style in a free environment.

Fights are not fair, they are random fights in random scenarios. There is nothing to attach to there, the outcome will often be random even at higher skill levels as a solo.

You will be the underdog a large majority of the time and a lot of losses will happen because of that. That's alright because you get to a point where you work around it.

I wouldn't take losing out on yourself or others, it's just a part of being a solo.

There is no big game here for most of us, we are just playing and practicing because we enjoy being on the sea. You don't have anything to prove to anyone in the game.

Run, jump. It’s called “multitasking” hard as it is. That how difficult solo play is

    But never impossible

  • @ferroushornet01 that's the fun part you don't ........Sot is meant to be played with full crews across the ship types by choosing to play solo your choosing to play on hard mode

  • @ferroushornet01
You don't do both at the same time, you set the wheel and sail and hope it will work while you try to both cannon and repel boarders.

Most of the time it won't work and you'll get spawn camped until you scuttle.

It's the way this game is now.

Sloop in the past was fastest when going directly in the wind, however that has long been not true (how long you ask? Perhaps a year and a half or longer I don't know when it changed) A brig chasing a sloop into the wind with all ships having default dummy sails the brig will eventually catch it in a straight line. People have complained for a long time about it.

  • Unless you're in a storm or at Crooked Masts, the wheel doesn't move once it's set. (I mentioned Crooked because ship drift is weird there...)

This is where experience comes into play. Set an angle on the wheel and fire. You will have to compensate for the turn. Practice.

Or set sails for a stupid and spam your supplies, toss loot until there's nothing left and Leave Game.
