Larger Ships or Multi-Crew social functionality

  • I know the Man O’ War topic has been going forever but with the almost total surety that the game is about to hit PlayStation/Nintendo Switch, I know my already oversized group is only going to get larger, and the occasional session once in a blue moon where we politely ask a dozen large crews if we can borrow their ship when their session is up to enable all 8 of us to get on is already so painful to organise.

So I wanted to revive the discussion, and plead you Rare, please consider adding a larger ship or some kind of same server functionality to Guilds. I can appreciate the balance issues this has alongside High Seas as it exists today, so even Safer Seas only would be amazing, or best case scenario an entirely new play space outside of the traditional world where we can sail together without our functionality jeopardising the hard work of smaller crews. Whether that be a raid environment where our ships dive to a small space to tackle major bosses, sprawling Goonie-esq dungeons or overwhelming armadas, or an exploratory environment, like scouring the Sea of the Damned with the rest of your guild for objects of importance for Athena’s Fortune or the Servants of the Flame.

Whatever happens I’m sure the future is going to be incredible and new platforms will be a phenomenal milestone, but with so many people coming in, crews and Guilds are bound to get larger and larger, and I honestly feel like everyone being able to collaborate as either a mighty vessel or a well organised pair up to a fleet of ships is the next crazy frontier Sea could conquer.

  • it still comes down too:

    Server stabilization and balance.
Too many ships, server can’t handle. Balancing is also a top problem.

Sloop should always have a chance to defeat a galleon. Regardless of size or fire power. Remove the chance the game is broken for everyone unless the join larger groups.

As for guild servers. You mean allaince servers? No sorry.

  • @burnbacon I’m not saying ‘Guild Servers’ at all, I’m saying separate play spaces with their own incentives and rewards that don’t detract from the core experience, like a Sea of the Damned space where you are levelling one faction and one faction alone. You can’t use it to cheese Gold Hoarders, you can’t use it to cheese Athena, you use it to engage in high difficulty, high stakes gameplay balanced towards a large amount of players like the original difficulty of Cursed Sails, where crews had to work together to have a chance of success. I understand why they can’t do Guild servers, that’s why I didn’t actually say that.

Same with the sloop, if you re-read my post you’ll notice I specified that I can appreciate the massive advantage large crews would have over sloops, hence the suggestion that it might even only be available in Safer Seas, just for fun.

  • Do it like alliance servers already do.

  • @pithyrumble again that’s something that’s stressful and tedious to organise and also gives myself and my friends an unfair advantage over anyone else on the server.
An on-demand multi-crew system that takes place outside of the world would likely solve all those issues. Just scenarios like “A Hunter’s Cry” dialed up to 100 with unique reward paths and company affiliations.
