Accessibility options for seagulls

  • I've been playing sea of thieves since launch and there has been one issue which has been prevalent for a long time now and that is the visibility of seagulls, especially in the wilds.

Seagulls are often the way of locating barrels, ship wreck and nowadays loot from creatures and ships. However they have never been the easiest to spot especially in the darker Wilds areas.

Is there any way we can create a accessibility option to make seagulls easier to see or replace with a beacon instead. I don't have any vision problems and they can be hard to find, so I can imagine it's much harder for people with vision issues.

What if we added a charming seagull illustration on the map to facilitate loot discovery and enhance navigation? :)

it would be visible at a certain distance obviously this would avoid having seagulls everywhere on the map.

  • @littlematjab I'm a big fan of map icons over sky effects so I like this idea.

To me all sky effects, not seagulls, I mean the laser beams and funny clouds, should be replaced with map icons.

That might be by design. If you spot them, congrates reward. But if you dont...well you miss out. (especially when there are kegs and you dont see them.)

But you could I believe, Increase the contrast or Brightness. I did and I see better in the dark.

I see your point but the original design of the three main areas was purely aesthetical rather than based on difficulty.

If you're referring to seagulls in general, that might have been the original design but their use has changed a lot since launch from being central to certain mission types such as lost shipment merchant voyages to their additional uses for general loot spotting (back at launch they were only used for barrels and shipwrecks).

As for turning up contrast and brightness, although it's a potential solution, I think a more general accessibility option might be needed such as the map icons when in close proximity or when zoomed in, similar to how place names disappear when you zoom out
