World event that requires players to liberate an outpost!

  • I watched a video with someone having the siren skull on an outpost. It causes skellies to spawn and it is hilarious to see them running around looking for players.

It made me think a world event where an outpost is not usable until either cleared or world event resets.

There would be a skull in the sky or some other notification that an outpost has been overran by skellies (or sea creatures, phantoms, etc.)

The shop doors, tent flaps, etc. would be closed and no NPCs are there. There would be waves of enemies similar to other world events. Could even get it interesting with ghost ships or skelly gallies patrolling around the outpost.

Loot would be significant to make it worth it. Have it spawn in the tavern after completion similar to Veils.

High seas only, to encourage players to either plan how they want to sell things to avoid other players OR ambush players trying to liberate an outpost.

The only arguments against it would be players who want to sell at that outpost, but you would have to pick another one or liberate the outpost.

Maybe with Flameheart's return we can see the battle expanding to outposts and players have to liberate?

  • @dank-jimb0 that was an adventure it's how Golden Sands became Port Merrick

  • @otherfanboy Yeah but you weren’t actively on the outpost defending it it

  • @dank-jimb0

    I love the idea!

Not being able to sell at that outpost would be an interesting feature; like the storm it forces the player to make a decision and change their plan due to unexpected environmental factors. It makes the map more dynamic and less static.

Tip of the hat to you sir.

  • @wonderwaffle559 the hell I wasn't I shot many reaper rowboats from golden sands .....but yea I'd love to see some tower defense style events tho the sad truth is most events are popular for a month then the player base drops off

  • I absolutely love your idea! Maybe have commendations that requires you to liberate x many, and once you do, those NPCs sell cosmetics, or certain items you can only purchase from them? WoW has something similar with battlegrounds. The winning faction gets to access certain items from the NPC.

I was looting a shipwreck the other day, wondering if I repaired it to be sea-worthy again, what would that particular faction award me. Would be a neat mini world event perhaps.

But I absolutely love your idea about skeletons raiding an Outpost.

This is a FANTASTIC idea!! I love it!!

I think the only drawback is that it would be pretty easy to sell the loot afterward from the Tavern (presuming other pirates don't try to ambush you). Though, if we added in everything you suggested (I REALLY like your idea of ghost ships patrolling the area) and boosted the difficulty of the World Event, I think it would be a fair trade-off!

  • Be like the old days when the Skeletons declared war.

  • I think events at spawn points, stores and drop off points for fragile cargo is problematic which means it's unlikely they'd do it.

LOL I did not think about how easy it would be to sell afterwards. Could even make it Skelly loot or special loot we take back to the vendors there (Or to Reapers). It would just be a race to sell the loot to the vendors before other crews and would make it interesting tuck plays at the Tavern lol

I'm thinking from a lore perspective the "invaders" have taken the loot to the tavern for safekeeping until they can get it off and when we liberate it we take it back to them for the payout at the end OR to Reapers.

Even if not this precise idea the core concept of encouraging the players on a server to team up for an event (vs always making it a hostile thing to fight over) is a fun one. Lots of ways to possibly spin it. Incentives/rewards could be baked in too (i.e. not loot that can be stolen) so there is no complete loss to helping.
