Ashen veil voyages

  • Back in the day, the only thing that got me to spend lots of time in the devils roar were the ashen legend voyages. They got you to level 10 way faster than the base voyages. Nowadays the devils roar is dead, but I do think adding an ashen veil voyage would be a step in the right direction to get players back in the roar. The voyage will be the same except with the added dangers of the volcanos, and at the end you get an ashen chests of legends in the loot pile. Extra points if they make ashen variants for some of the Athena loot like the voyage crates and skulls.

(This formula could be added to other game content. Exp: ashen Meg variant, ashen kraken variant, ashen skeli ships, skull fort in the roar being turned into something like the FOTD where you can start it on your own, but obviously different)

  • As a devil's roar dweller, I need more content there. Emissary quest and sea fort would be a nice start to begin with especially emissary quest it's about time we get those there. To be honest at this point anything would be welcome.

  • @whalelordgames As thirsty as I am for some legend content out in the Roar, I don't think veils are it. The reason being, that veils technically happen outside of any region and there's not anywhere to plop down the fortress that would be hit by a volcano and not also block off a section of the Roar by summoning a ghost fleet there. I do veils in the Roar quite often simply because I'm more familiar with the territory and unseasoned pirates avoid it (then come complain about it being a private server).

I think it'd be better if they just updated Athena voyages. I did a Gilded one over the community weekend since they're getting the axe, and all the objectives were on 4 islands. Sure, the merchant ones referenced each others islands but I didn't do that part anyway. Maybe if that part was more like a lost shipment or something. Idk. But I'm getting distracted here. I found it very enjoyable given how fast it was compared to a normal voyage. I got it done in 2 hours as opposed to the usual 3 hours the Ashen Athena voyages seem to take me. I was pretty content with getting 3 CoL too.

What's more, that wasn't the most profitable thing I ended up doing either. Skeleton ship spawns + megs + fleet took about the same amount of time if not faster and earned about the same value in gold. At this late state in the game (as relative to the conception of athena voyages), I believe Athena Voyages could be completely replaced with gilded versions without upsetting the balance much. You could make twice as much doing 2 SoSS voyages during the same time-frame (I think). Ashen voyages would be worth more though, so it's possible those would upset the balance of the upgrade, I haven't been baking this very long. Maybe just two CoL at the end of it to balance all those ashen chests, crates, and skulls.

  • @crowedhunter well with the veils, the final missions will take place on the borders of the world as always, but the build up quests would take place in the roar

  • @whalelordgames So then why would it be an Ashen Chest of Legends if it isn't in the Roar?

  • @crowedhunter you do the rest of the parts of the mission in the roar, and it will spawn on the outskirts of the roar where there is no volcanos. The ashen Athena chest is heavily underutilized, and needs a new placement.

  • I think the Roar would be better served with unique voyages instead of just reskinning existing ones and dropping them in there. It needs a bigger draw than "same voyage except you can get hit with volcanoes", because that clearly isn't working already.

  • @whalelordgames So then it isn't more dangerous to do. Do you see what I mean?

Aside from Belle, the added risk to the veil is either negligible or nonexistent. The shipwrecks are all in zones that don't get volcanoed and the Sudds stuff takes you to different islands so the risk to your boat isn't there really.

I would actually argue it's advantageous to do veils in the Roar considering you get better odds to not get Belle and it eleminates bad players from just sailing up and being an added nieusance. Even seasoned players won't be able to sail over in time if you are good at it. I can do the last phase in like 10-20 minutes while solo maybe 5 with a good partner (I've never timed it, but it feels really fast when I didn't mess something up during that part.)

  • @whalelordgames I do agree though that we need some more Ashen CoL. Did you read the suggestion I made in my original reply to the topic?

  • @d3adst1ck this I totally agree with. I just tried to play it extra safe with the suggestion, since usually original ideas get dogpiled by the usual 5 forum dwellers

  • @crowedhunter yeah I saw it, I’m not sure about how much rep and money you get from 3 chests of legends from guilded voyages tho. I think the veil might still have a better payout for the time.

  • @whalelordgames Yeah, I think the time investment for LotV is like an hour tops. So with the gilded Athena Voyages (henceforth rebranded as Athena Voyage Upsillon) taking about 2 hours, I think this would be a good balance. I think an AAVU(Ashen Athena Voyage Upsillon) would also need to have the ACoLs split up between islands. With it taking place exclusively in the DR, that should balance it against it's non-ashen counterparts; namely AVUs.

The objective isn't to make a voyage that is the most profitable thing to do, but to balance it against world events so that the world events are still more profitable. Otherwise interaction between players goes down.

  • First I don't buy the "Roar is Empty" observation from people that don't go there. I mostly sail there and it is far from empty. Keep in mind there are 4 regions and 5 ships per server so saying a region is always empty is hardly accurate.

I would like to see new unique content that leverages the volcanos instead of causing them to be toned down. For example some kind of mission/commendations of do something at an active volcano. What a great place for Flameheart to be hiding, in an active volcano?? How about unique gems that form from fresh lava balls but burst once cool?

Forts and things would just cause the volcanos to have to be toned down, otherwise your ship would always be destroyed.

I don't like at all the idea of moving server event style missions there, like Fotd because that is just a version of "make FoTD safer" based on the perception no one goes there.

  • @foambreaker good points. One thing tho is that I dont mean move the FOTD. I’m saying they should utilize the skull fort there better. Right now it spawns as a normal fort that give you an extra chest of rage. They should turn it into a fort that you can start like the FOTD but have different mechanics and loot. They could even make the fort change due to flame hearts return.

  • @whalelordgames That would be really cool.

@foambreaker I said it eliminates bad players. I'm talking about the ones that only know how to ram and board. Seems like they don't show up in the DR. But I only have 1,001 hours so I probably don't know what I'm talking about, right?

? I have no idea what you are referring too. 🙃

  • @foambreaker Sorry, I must have mistook you. I thought when you said "I don't buy the 'Roar is Empty' observation from people that don't go there." you were misunderstanding what I said about the Roar being a safer place specifically for Veils. The reason being not that I had such little by way of expectations but that I was the only one who said anything of the like which I could see and what I said was somewhat adjacent to that. Not to mention, I'm an easy guy to misunderstand with how I end up saying stuff.

  • @crowedhunter No, I was referring to OPs comment "...Nowadays the devils roar is dead..."

  • @foambreaker Ah, I did indeed miss it. Again, sorry for misunderstanding.

  • @foambreaker I just said it, because as a long time player I havent had the need to go there for anything for years. and this spans through play sessions with hundreds of Randoms over the years.
