The game file size on Steam is currently a bit over 100gb, which must be because of the 4K textures. I'm playing this game on Steam Deck where I don't need any fancy 4k resolutions and really don't like how this game takes up 1/5 of my 500gb SD card. I mean, come on, why is this game bigger in file size than games like Death Stranding and Elden Ring, which are big and good looking games. I think it would be great if 4k textures could be disabled like in Halo Infinite (online), where you can reduce the 53gb game file size by 16gb when you disable 4k textures from the Steam client.
Make 4K Textures Optional (PC)
The textures in Sea of Thieves aren’t that outrageous. It’s just that there are a lot of textures, sound files, etc.
Only thing they really could potentially do is make portal accessible Tall Tales optional installs… but the number of complications in doing that would become super frustrating for some and would require a lot of game reworking.
