Increase in Cheating?

  • Been playing the game for a good while without running into anything I'd call a hacker but lately, and it might just be me, but it seems like they're more common. Seen 2 groups in a 8 hour session yesterday that didn't even try to hide it. Is rare still working on Anticheat?

  • @nanixgarm91 if you suspect someone of cheating, you’re better raising it as a support ticket and submit your evidence. To be honest, there’s also the chance that what you claim to be cheating may have been poor latency on your opponent’s side, making them look like they were teleporting or getting hit reg’d. Neither of which are cheating obv. Just make sure not to conflate the two before making that assumption.

  • @tesiccl yeah I've seen bad hit reg and lag issues, but watching someone grab a chest off my boat, who didn't make a sound getting on, then just disappearing, no boat near, not in the water, just gone, is a bit different.

  • Rare (and every other game dev) are fighting a constant battle against cheats, things seemed way better at start of season 10 but as of yesterday I started to notice more shady stuff like players getting onto your boat without making a sound or landing deck shots. Trouble is the player pool for hourglass ain't that big, so the no-lifers that spend everyday trying to break the game are gonna be under a microscope while you're matchmaking.

  • Yes, the new quest calls the cheaters out of their holes.
People showing up on your boat without boarding it is pretty common now.

  • Yeah, 1st didn't seem that bad, just silent boarding during SoSS event, dude just got on and off after we had killed him and his buddy (sloop) when they tried to board. 2nd was the worst, as it seemed like even their boat came out of nowhere and they just came and gone as they pleased and took hits for days.

  • I don't know if it was cheating but, if it wasn't hit reg is so bad for players who are jumping and can't seem to get shot or hit with a sword.

  • Start of season 10 was great, all battles we encountered were fair even against real good players better than us, which sometimes sank us and we always come back for revenge. We normally play 4-5 hours a night 6 days a week as a two man crew on a sloop.

The past couple days thought, we have encountered a couple suspicious crews. Crews where cannon balls just don't miss even from a fair decent distance away, they seem to directly hit steering wheel, mast and cannons without missing any shots.

Like one last night, first two shots a crew did was normal cannon balls and they directly hit the mast and brought it down, then next hit was the steering then three directly hit the cannon. No missing and from a fair distance away. Is this the new auto-aim mechanic for console players or something more sinister.

We have had lots of battles, some that lasted 60 minutes or a lot longer and some massive battles with 3-4 other ships involved and it's chaos and constantly working hard, but there's just something weird/odd about some of the crews we have come up against the past week. Just way too accurate.

I just wish more games would have recording software like Battlefield 2 had, the BF2 Battle Recorder where you could download the full recording of the game after playing and view things from all player angles and views.

  • Theres definitely been some ground gained in the past few days by the cheater community.

Ran into the typical "spamming twitch channel advertising their hacks" while they teleport onboard crew.

Hppefully Rare closes whatever loophole was found.

  • For sure. I've encountered two super blatant cheaters in the last couple of weeks, which is wild since I don't even remember the last time I 100% could confirm someone was using some kind of hack. First fella was invisible and blunder camped us while shouting racial slurs, and the other other guy had infinite chainshots. I got a board on him and checked his empty supply crates, but they were able to shoot chainshots indefinitely. Really terrible people. Ruining the fun and experience of others through game maniuplation and exploits is bottom of the barrel gross.

@tesiccl Bro still thinks reporting cheaters does anything in this game lol.

I’ve gotten emails from Rare stating that cheater name X has been banned based on my reporting. Which, really didn’t accomplish much considering they can just create a new account. However, one thing that reporting does do is make the Rare team aware of cheats and the prevelance of them.

I felt pretty hopeless about it last season, but I didn’t see any cheaters for a while in season 10, compared to the abundance of them in season 9, so I’m convinced that Rare can effectively mitigate cheating. But the battle continues… I’ve seen it creeping back up in streams and the forums.

    IMHO report them.

You know what blows my mind is the fact that people actually pay money for cheats. That’s both hilarious and pathetic lol.

  • @captdirtyoar
well yeah thats the average hourglass fight, 3 cannonballs for the mast and constant target without missing across the map :)

  • @tesiccl
Never seen someone with their main account obviously hacking, surely cannon hacks on some of them, which is impossible for dear Rare to detect.
The average hacker is the one with the xbox game pass and 2 days on the sea, where the reporting system does help for 5 minutes, until they have made a new account.

During season 9 that was about 30-60% of my hourglass matches, no exaggeration. I havent had any season 10 yet, but I’ve also been less active. I saw a stream last week with an obvious cannon assist.

  • @capt-greldik
Yep season 9 was absolutely painful when playing HG - I have been playing quite a bit in season 10 and it seems like it has improved in terms of less hackers. I have not even meet a single olympic swimmer or kegspawner. A few matches with obvious cannon assist and pure one-blunders.

  • Please avoid engaging in personal arguments and derailing the topic of the thread. It is fine to debate the content of the post, and the viewpoints therein, but disrespecting any of your fellow pirates personally is against the pirate code, and our forum rules.

If you believe a player has been toxic in the game or suspect foul-play, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket via Rare Player Support. As this is a matter for Support and not the Forums, I'll be dropping anchor here.
