Well with the latest update we are again pushed into ship to ship battle. What about the group that doesnt want to be constantly forced into it. Why arent there any moves toward ship to ship comradere. Players working together for a common goal. Once again Rare misses the mark.
Rare continues to push PVP
2 of the 3 pieces of SoT content in season 10 are major additions for players outside of pvp
including recent changes to cater to pve guild leveling
and this new voyage can literally be done without pvp on some servers
I did one today with zero pvp on the first day, down the road there will be many chances to get one done without pvp.
One could realistically do most of the new content without any pvp, it'll just take a bunch of trying and moving on as needed

You’re not forced into anything, just like I’m not forced to do any particular tall tale or event if I choose not to. Also, the game is designed to foster player vs player conflict. Hence events posted in the sky for all to see, among other things.

But isn't it entirely possible for two crews to work together on it in an alliance?
it's gonna happen a lot
fotd for cofs and this new thing it'll create a lot of organic alliance situations
which is completely fine because organic alliances aren't controlled in a serious way so there is eventual chaos and ships leaving/new ships joining
it's so well designed for the organic environment, it's serves pretty much everyone without being massively cheesy for locked down alliance servers.
Its a competitive voyage. It was advertised and hyped as a competitive voyage.
You are now on the forum complaining about competition in your competitive voyage.
This isnt a case of Rare missing the mark... In fact for many of us, they hit a bullseye.
December brings safer seas, you can fish do tall tales and be Jack Sparrow all on your lonesome all you like then, but until then, please for the love of Ramsey, stop complaining about PVP in a PVPVE game.

I’m not forced into anything. Frankly the reward for the new voyage isn’t worth the time and trouble.
Unfortunately, too often that's my opinion of the game: not worth the time and trouble.
I just did 2 in a row on 1 server.
crooked mast to rum runner to lone cove
crooked mast to rum runner to crooks hollowReaper 5 on the map the entire time, no alliance and no established friendlies
reaper had started a fotd right before I got the draw of crooks hollow delivery so that one could be intense for people but no combat or anyone chasing me around
That's still good for an experienced player because it's still intense, that reaper brig could have set up a stealth play, they could have attacked while I was passing and it woulda been not great for me. Lots of intense moments even without pvp.
Now if I am someone in your shoes all I'm gonna do is dig one up and keep going until someone pursues and if I didn't want to fight I would just toss it and move on and try again the next time.
You're gonna get lucky servers and lucky Rng, it's going to happen sometimes.
The main thing is don't stress about it, the comms aren't bad for this content, entirely doable as a casual non-fighter. It's not time consuming, it's worth trying for.
Worst case scenario you spend 20 minutes sailing around without selling the skull, you still get some comm stuff done for a while.
I wouldn't run with it, not worth your time and it just takes the fun from others, nobody wins doing that so I'd just entirely approach it as a pve quest and when pvp gets involved just dump it and/or grab a new server.
You never gotta fight but if you aren't gonna fight I wouldn't take the fun from people that are playing as the content is intended, just forfeit and try again imo.
This isn't bad for pve at all.
I think this is a bullseye addition. The first of it's kind. So RARE......make more additions like this. And to address CaptainLuke56's valid concern, co-op world events would be AMAZING. I would LOVE a world event of a boss ship that requires the rest of the server to defeat (at least three ships).

I respectfully disagree. History has shown co-op adventures and events are something that hasn't really worked out.

This right here! Guilds has been out for a month or so now. I've made new friends and sailed with people outside of my normal group and it never would've happened otherwise.
Safer Seas will be here next month and you'll be able to sequester yourself away safe and sound, without having to worry about anyone else sailing in this big open ocean with you........
Social and PvE aspects are making up a majority of this season. But in the meantime, let people who are having fun with this new bit of content enjoy their moment. It absolutely hit the mark for me and my crew today, exceeded our expectations, and gave us some awesome moments we're still chatting about.

@papatankers2041 but is that because the general SoT community sucks?
That is such a general question. No.
Sot community has the best people I know.
There are bound to be bad apples tho.@rikjaxx said in Rare continues to push PVP:
@papatankers2041 Co-op events will work if they just make the rewards co-op as well. In the past that hasn't been done so pirates will be pirates. I for one would enjoy helping others take down a boss galleon as a co-op. Loot be damned, just for the commendations and fun.
But some adventures (i.e the shrouded ghost one) did require cooperation to complete. Once people had it done tho alot of them turned to spawn camping others instead. They precieve that as a reward itself.

I guess if you're only into it for the end reward, skip out then. For my part, it's facilitated some of the most dynamic and exciting PvP I've been part of in a long time. The experiences I had on the new voyage tonight were such that I didn't even think to check the commendation progress or gold gain.
And the no guild rep doesn't really bother me. Not every single thing needs to give it. If you really want to raise some guild rep, you could always use the time that the voyage is active to run some other PvE stuff while the server is busy.
Got to have a reward to even bother wanting to experience it. Like a gameshow, the Reward to Win has to be worth it.
PvP or not, Ive already like many others come across those who pick up one of the two items and never bring them together for Hours. Much like the runners in Hourglass, it be one of those "Oh cool that thing is active." Ignored. That's too bad. My crew and I ran four of the voyages tonight. Each one was contested at varying levels, ranging from a rival crew was inbound but we beat them to the island by half a minute and cashed in the skull.....
All the way up to our brig duking it out around the FotD in a free for all against another brig and sloop, losing our chest, reacquiring it and the key, then having a four way fight at Cannon Cove against the same brig and sloop, as well as a late-to-the-dance galleon as we searched for Briggsy. We were ultimately victorious after some seriously close calls and there were moments it could have gone either way.
It was a pretty memorable night.

Not every server will be wild but there is some strong longevity potential with this voyage
This succeeds where HG struggles. This has the pve, this has the emergent encounters and random scenarios and organic gameplay.
It had me doing them all day and the only way to appeal to me is an interesting and organic pve/pvp experience.
and I am a solo so it'll be even more fun for crews as a part of their overall experience.
Imo it's better than HG in every way and is currently the best pvp leaning content in the game.
If they work it into events/rewards in the future I think this content will remain active for a long time.
Optional voyage, nobody is making you do it. Anybody doing it will probably leave you out of the PvP if you are not in their way
Do it when the servers are quiet and you can probably do it without any PvP. Like I did this morning at 6am.
You get two cosmetics for completing it once (flag and jacket)
As a PvE skewed player, I think it's a great idea. Opt-in PvP is always my preference. Plus it's a PvPvE not pure PvP.
Crews know what they're getting into and, for the other PvEers on the server, it gives them a respite for a bit (at least until all the sweats get bored of this, inevitably).
Sometimes content isn't going to be for you, and that's okay, just accept it.

You have to be trolling, I refuse to believe otherwise.
You will have an entirely new server dedicated to zero PvP.

That doesn't encourage comeraderie between ships on high seas, did you even read their post!?
What the game incentivises is important to what people do, and unfortunately what the game incentivises is murderhobo pvp, not cooperation. Why spend an hour teaming up with someone else and doing some voyages together when you could just steal their stuff and be on to the next victim in not even half the time for the same if not more profit?
