Add GUILD CHAT

  • See the title.

Add a guild chat that everyone in the particular guild can use in-game.
The chat can be accessed via gameplay session's chat or if you want to look into chat history you can open it up in the guild's menu.

Chat is one of the most essential social things in games, it should be part of the Guild system.

  • Yes, this is the standard guild mechanics, guilds are not very refined in this game

  • Guys, use discord…… I don’t understand the need for people to have someone do everything for them. These things already exist. I’d rather the other issue get fixed rather than a chat room being made

Use public transportation instead of using cars. It's already here for you.

Of course, we can use Discord and we do, but the in-game guild chat has also its function.
How mad you can be that you stand for a guild system that actually has no function in this game? The guild chat is one of the most essential things in any game. Many promises with Season 10 that have almost no function. I feel a bit robbed when I see that.

  • I dont really get why people are so actively against the idea of this, just because we have an out-of-game alternative doesn't mean we can't have an in-game version too.

I've mentioned this other game, Warframe, recently before on a similar topic being clans and guilds, they've always had an in-game clan chat system and it works fine, it then makes discord COMPLETELY OPTIONAL most of the time. Being able to connect with clans and meet new people IN-GAME is one of the driving points SoT has always tried to get people involved in.

Of course, I'm not saying it should immediately be top priority cancel development of everything else whatsoever, but it would be nice to have eventually, and kinda strange they didn't launch with it.

  • @jon-sea-nah I can't speak for everyone but I struggle to use discord and play at the same time. Messes with my microphone so I can't use in-game voice chat which can cause problems. Also it's just generally better quality of life to not require additional software or resources outside of the game to make the most of a single in-game feature like guilds. Guild chat is not that big of an ask and it's a basic necessity for such a feature.

That's not to say don't use discord. I think the guilds that wanna do it right are using discords as they should but ideally Rare will add an in-game alternative in the near future which will make everything so much more fluid and allow people to really start getting the most out of guilds.

  • @b4njax use it as the text chat not the live chat. The OP was mentioning having the ability to go back and look at the chat. Discord provides all of that

  • @frixsik well I mean I’m many European countries public transit is better an more available. In America we have cars mostly due to the sprawl of our cities….. but I digress. You said you wanted feature XYZ and discord provides those features. I’m sorry that a text box has you feeling robbed…. I would prefer other things looked at and fixed before I have another text box I have to open

  • @jon-sea-nah Discord does, yeah, hence why I think people should be using it. Doesn't mean some kind of guild chat should be in the game. Or even a guild message board on the guild page. Something specifically for ease of communication with your guildmates, not just the ones on your crew at the time. Discord can offer this, yes, but often gets cluttered with all sorts of channels and not everyone wants that.

Honestly, I think an instanced guild hideout would work best for all of this.

That's like saying Reddit has forums so Rare should close these forums.

What are you, an employee of Discord?

    /facepalm

  • @gallerine5582

I don't really get why people are so actively against the idea of this, just because we have an out-of-game alternative doesn't mean we can't have an in-game version too.

Because there’s already a well established, well built, way of communicating directly on and offline. AND it’s likely you’ll already be using Discord anyway to co-ordinate playing sessions and get togethers when you’re not playing the game. So why should Rare bother wasting time and resources developing their own in game version when you can use what’s available already? You literally have pirate chat, in game chat, voice chat, DM’s, Xbox party chat, and Discord. Do you really need another way of talking to each other? No, you don’t.

  • @tesiccl "...well built..."

OMG, try the mobile app, worst mobile app ever.

Has the tiniest icons that you have to hit to open lists. literally pinhead sized.

  • @foambreaker you okay today? What’s wrong? Talk to me.

  • @foambreaker yup that’s exactly what I am, but stock!!! The funny thing is it wouldn’t just be 1 messageboard it’d be 3 that you have to track across and all the other stuff cluttering the world. This isn’t WOW it’s not like you need to talk to your budddies from 19 countries about setting up a raid for the torch of Gondor. The need for messaging doesn’t seem to be there. If you are worried about “channels” being too much to deal with what do you think it’s like for all the guilds? Again not necessarily against it…… BUT we have things that work, please fix the hitreg issues you’ve caused, fix the HG exploits, fix so much more than a simple message board that every forum site and discord has…..

  • Chat is one of the most essential social things in games, it should be part of the Guild system.

Also most toxic form of communication.

  • Third-party apps as an option are completely fine, but the game shouldn't be relying on them for what has been basic functionality for decades now.

The longevity of guilds will be community building between people that are are not active on social media and in discord servers/etc

The quick/cheese grind players and status chasers within guild design will burn out sooner rather than later.

Guilds succeed as a community feature by not just doing what already exists, the discord servers, the twitch chats, the twitter clubs. It succeeds by offering options outside of that.

People acting like guild grinding is a job for people, people getting kicked out, all the nonsense that some guilds have been doing is all drama fuel, not sustainable to just appeal to the same people that have already cliqued up in 4 different ways over the years. The people in the discord servers are the same people in the twitch chats which are the same people on twitter, etc, gotta think outside of doing everything the same, to reach more people.

Imo where it misses the mark is by seeing social media/status grind as community. Two very different things imo.

When I did open crew adventuring I just used hot mic because it's in game and I didn't wanna mess with party chats and discord stuff. A lot of people prefer in game stuff.

  • The excuse of oh I can’t go to those sites is a bit weak. It’s not hard. PLUS whilst I’m at work I can keep in touch with players and guild mates vs having to be logged in on the game…..

I bought this car, what do you mean I HAVE to go somewhere else to put gas in it to make it run…., why doesn’t it just do it itself?

There are lots of options to do all you guys are asking, it’s free, it’s polished…. God forbid we use what works lol

  • I'm an extensive Discord user and an "Early Supporter" (I've had Nitro since its introduction) but even I agree with the OP. Give folks the option of not having to rely on a third party app.

Sea of Thieves already relies too much on social media for its events, in my opinion, and that's not a good thing.

Discord has had outages recently, pretty big ones, and if the game is working but the communication isn't, because that's a different app by a different company, that's not going to be a good experience.

The whole situation with Twitter/X shows how quickly these companies can change how things function.

It's not an excuse it's just the reality of what exists.

There is no guild momentum going forward, pvpers are looking forward to the pvp content and people are looking forward to safer seas, or they are just avoiding season 10 altogether.
The rushing grind/status part of guilds will do what they always do, burn the people out.

It's pretty easy for a lot of people to avoid guilds and even sot right now because current guild design is not appealing to a lot of people

It doesn't hurt the game by remaining as it is but it will just end up one of the things that people never really get into because of how unappealing/inconvenient it is for their situation and interests.

  • @realstyli I remember when spotify was begging you to use it for free as everyone was on Winamp or Itunes....Now they won't let you skip more than few songs unless you pay :D

I see Twitch and Discord becoming scummy in few years.

No one is taking your options away. OP suggested more options, not less.

I bought this car, what do you mean I HAVE to go somewhere else to put gas in it to make it run…., why doesn’t it just do it itself?

More like "I bought this car, what do you mean I have to go somewhere else to install headlights, tail lights, turn signals and a horn?" (Basic means of communication)

There are lots of options to do all you guys are asking, it’s free, it’s polished…. God forbid we use what works lol

What's wrong with having a built-in option that also works?

Both companies have already shown they have that potential. Discord tried to introduce NFTs until there was a major backlash, and now they have a "shop" with some crazy prices on profile and avatar flairs. Twitch has had made some very sneaky tweaks to ads recently as well to essentially force streamers to run them.

  • @wolfmanbush the BIGGEST issue I’ve seen with guilds is NO I WANNA LEVEL MYYYYY GUILD. It’s having a guild and trying to sail with others from LFG or other options and then wanting to do their guild instead of yours. It’s not the grind, it’s not the communication piece. It’s the but I want mine done not yours.

I’m not saying don’t put a hub in, just throw it down as #76 on the long list of other stuff that should happen 1st.

Guilds and S8 have shown the true colors of a lot of people playing this game now. Cheat and glitch the rep up because colored pixels matter

  • There are ways to communicate more effectively like, discord, xbox app, and other communication tools that work whether someone's online or not. There are definitely cha ges that need to be done to guilds but this one isn't a real concern

  • @frixsik that logic doesn't work guild chats would actually represent the public transport as it lacks convenience and isn't as reliable to communicate

Discord would be the car readily available comfortable and has nore features like communication even when people aren't online.

  • There are people in my guild that I don't know, I recruited randomly, there are guilds that are made up of 100% unknown people... a chat tool would not only help but is essential, even if there are other external options.

There are people I add on Xbox who don't even have discord, it would be much easier to communicate with them in game, and if I see the need for a more complex chat, with images and videos then yes I would invite them to a server .

An in-game chat will work for people who are playing at the same time, especially, while discord is more of a chat that takes place when we are offline.
