There are most players in the Sea of Thieves that don’t want to earn really cool curses likes the skeleton and ghost curse. And so I’m proposing that you make a way for people who don’t want to PvP to unlock the Skelton and ghost curse. Deal?
PvP curses
Naw, overall it is a very good thing that they finally have a curse that is unique to pvp gameplay. The other curses are all locked behind pve gameplay with no pvp "options" for obtaining them.
That said, they are set up in such a way as to make it hard to earn all of the customization options, which makes it actually rewarding.
I find that even if you start grinding for the pvp curses with sinks it won't take to long eg 20-30 rounds before you start to learn and get good but if you go in going i couldn't win and don't try and learn you aren't going to make it and the curses should stay behind a "progression wall" of pvp as it add meaning to the curse eg if you see a skelly curse it will most likely be a challenging fight and its iconic skin of pvp skill normaly
Counter proposal. Instead of the game changing in a controversial way so that you get something without putting the effort required, maybe just maybe, you could actually play HG and get them the way it was intented. Ghoul and glory starts on October 27th and lasts till the 1st of November. During that time you get boosted xp so the grind is faster. Otherwise Safer Seas come out in December...
I would hear this about the PL curse but all the other cosmetics are tied specifically to a war between PL and Reapers which are both primarily player groups. It wouldn't make sense from a lore or design standpoint to make them accessible. It would be like adding in arena cosmetics to the dubloon store or something.
@burnbacon Oh, that would be kind of cool. Like a curse like that one innkeeper has. For those that resist the burn of the flame but still get tempted.
It's hard to have proper PVE content. Especially for Reaper since they wouldn't make sense in Safer Seas. So it should probably just be Adventure content. Like maybe it's for turning in Chests of Wonderous Secrets or Reaper's Bounty Chests.
Then maybe let guardians accept those things so people can get PL that way too.
@djmarsh124 As someone who had gold curse back when it meant something, someone who has both PvP curses (while they still mean something), the thought of g rated juniorfying them kinda just destroys their value.
SoT is a horizontal progression based game. Mostly every accomplishment has a cosmetic tied to it. I said accomplishment not commendation because most commendations are hardly an “accomplishment”.
I like the PvP curses because unlike gold curse (which you can wake up and decide “hey I’m going to grind really hard and I will more than likely have gold curse within 40 hours if not sooner”)
The PvP curses are a choice to get, unlike gold curse, that choice requires a lot of will power. The amount of times I absolutely got obliterated, but persistently played HG until I adapted to this new playstyle, has turned my PvP abilities outside of HG into well above what my abilities were before.
Back to horizontal progression, the PvP curses not only cosmetically transform the player’s avatar, but it transforms the player’s PvP abilities. The curses/blessings are representative of that accomplishment/transformation. Which is why tying those PvP exclusive curses to something else just doesn’t seem okay to me. Especially considering Gold curse will already turn into the ashen curse after safer seas drops.
@burnbacon said in PvP curses:
They just need to make curses of equal glory that are compared to the pvp curses but earned by pve
But make it as much of a grind so it’s still equal
So gold curse

Big NO for this.
I've played this game in a lot of different ways, in my experience the quality of life in this game goes up significantly when staying out of the grinds (unless a person enjoys the activity) and avoiding the "I need a cosmetic" mindset.
It's real easy for anyone to get caught up in things. "I need this" the fomo of it, the status of it, the overindulgence of it all.
I've long found things rewarding in this game but I didn't really start enjoying it until I started doing my own thing and removing the carrot chasing from my sessions.
I went from doing everything to not chasing carrots much at all. I just play how I want and stick with what I have or what I can unlock by playing how I enjoy.
I've never really viewed it as a game I view it more as an adventure experience and I was damaging the quality of my experience by getting involved in grinds and unlocking everything just because it exists. I never needed it, I was just caught up in it.
I still gotta put myself in check regularly about it as maintenance for the experience but it really changes my experience for the better. I don't have the curses, I don't grind the cofs, I'm not grinding guilds. I'm just enjoying the experience through my gameplay at this stage in my piracy.
It takes effort but it's very much worth it imo.
As someone who just got to 100 in GoF a few days ago, HOW DARE YOU suggest belittling the work I went through to get this far how dare you belittle the work everyone has put into their respective faction, I suck at pvp but I still did the work how about you do the same instead of asking for stuff to be handed to you, yes it's a grind and finding good crew members who won't leave after one lose is hard to do but if I can slog my way through it anyone can get stuck in and loss farm if you have to but DON'T slap everyone in the face by suggesting these curses be made easy to get.
I wouldnt mind some alternate pvp modes, like defending sea forts or an island based capture the flag..
Expanding allegiance-gain to different forms of pvp that perhaps different players who are intimidated by, or otherwise unwilling to participate in diving, might find themselves gravitating to.
But to make them just PvE obtainable, no.
Sorry but this is a no from me also,
the skeleton curses and ghost curse are respected within the community because they are hard to obtain and are known only to be obtained from pvp. so typically when someone sees a skeleton/ghost cursed player they expect them to give them a good fight. personally I would be insulted if they made getting these curses easier and I'm not a PVP focused player (although aiming to improve my pvp skills).
sorry but i feel at least 90% of the community like the way you need to EARN these curses an i'm one of them.

@djmarsh124 just be patient…it will happen. Rare has catered to everyone who complains enough. Give it another year and you’ll be able to earn “the pvp” curses another way
Safer seas coming in December… rare said they were against pve servers.
rare also stated that HG would not be accessible in safer Seas and currently i see no evidence to see them changing their minds on this
@soulstinger2k20 You don't have to dive. You can vote up HG, roam the map picking up loot and completing missions while you wait to be invaded, then defend.
In fact if you complete an Athena mission then you get a commendation. I would recommend Skull of Destiny or the Keg Voyage mission.@phantaxus Im over halfway to gold bones, I know about defending. The game does not prioritize matching divers with defenders and can take 30 to 60+ minutes to find you a match.
Even with grade 5 faction treasure bonus, 1 win (if you win) every 30 to 60 minutes is paltry compared to diving. As an added detractor to defending; taking the time to pile up faction treasure grades doesnt affect the allegiance gain for a loss, so the knowledge that a loss-farming solo slooper is earning more rep than your crew piling up treasure is galling.
My point was I would rather they introduce different PvP game modes that might appeal to the people clamoring for PvE skeleton/ghost curse progression before they just straight up cave in and allow PvE progression.
@soulstinger2k20 I was never able to figure out why defenders are not first to be matched with divers.
@ghutar if you think about it, if defending was clear and away the best allegiance gain... hardly anyone would dive.. so there would be no matches.
The way I personally think defending/faction treasure grades should work, if they were implement a pve route should be selling the HG with treasure grades... but no wins... should still award a fair amount of allegiance. Grade 4 or 5 being paralell to a win.
This would technically mean you could PvE your way to the curse, but remember you have to have the HG on when you grab loot for that loot to count. They could still be invaded... and it makes sense to me. More active HG's out there, more matchss.
Low-skill pve players who are adverse to constant head to head pvp instead laden with treasure trying to sneak it to an outpost to sell their HG, getting invaded by the dialed-in sweaty crew would be the big OH S**T moment and the diving players would actually feel like pirates attacking some rich merchantman or convoy.
Anyway. Feel free to tear the idea to pieces.
@soulstinger2k20 I mean it's just logical to pioritise matching with defeders as it create much more diverse fights.
I (113Guardian/79Servant) allwas tought that idea is to:
- dive - fight and win treausre, sell it for profit hoping that nobody will be able to sink you before that.
Of course becouse nobody is defending or there is no pioritise to do it we live in dive, right broadside, dive again reality.
Rare love to create new things but hate polish existing ones.
