Monkey Island Feedback

  • I would like to give my opinion on the last tall tale and some things I liked or didn't like about these three adventures.

    • I liked:
I loved the evolution in the mechanics of fibs, NPCs walking, the "purchase" system, insults, being able to sail with a special tall tale ship and other things...
I wish we had this in the tall tales of Pirates of the Caribbean, being able to pilot the black pearl or fight with Davy Jones. But now that they've done it on Monkey Island, I hope to see it more often, and that it continues to evolve.

The story was really cool, even for me who didn't play Monkey Island it was interesting.

The islands are absolutely fantastic, well built and immersive, I really got lost in the jungle of monkey island and felt like I was in a pirate port populated on Mêlée island... These are things I wanted to see more of in Sea of Thieves.

    • Did not like:
I really hoped to see flameheart making an appearance in these tall tales, it was a special moment for him to make his first appearance in bones again. The church scene was the perfect shot to show his strength and dangerousness. However we had the pirate lord doing... nothing.
Please Stop, in the future make these legendary names from Sea of Thieves have some force in the action, just like the stories mention.

Boss fight and difficulty... Because making fights so easy, I think it's strange for beginners to have a lot of difficulty with puzzles and deducing what to do and extreme boredom in boss fights. If flameheart appears in a fib with the current fighting system it will be a huge disappointment. Do something more diverse, different attacks, wave stages, different powers, and something challenging. It has to be something so difficult when a fight with a tall tale boss was in galleon but with more diversity in the fight, moves and stages

Rewards... I absolutely liked the rewards, they are light years ahead of what they delivered in the Pirates of the Caribbean Tall Tales, rewards that have to do with the partner franchise. So this is not a criticism of what was given, but something that could be added. Don't just put trinkets as rewards, some players don't use captured ships or simply don't have space to display more rewards, my friends don't use and don't care about trinkets, so only the last tall tale had interesting rewards for them (the sword).

My conclusion, Technically it's the best tall tale ever released, with innovative mechanics that I hope to see in future releases, I really liked it and if one day there is a Pirates Life 2 I know that the evolution will be huge compared to the first.

  • I was told the end would "connect" to the current events. So far, I havn't see anything.
It like the Pirates Life, it one off story with minimum addon or changes to the actual story.

Personally, Im glad I finished everything and have no need to repeat it. It not my cup of tea for a TT. The Original TT & Pirates Life were 8/10 better. Straight to the point Tales and didn't take too long with a ending that was...pointless at best.

For whatever it's worth (to you as a player), most of that is basically just Monkey Island, or from Monkey Island. They did a great job of taking the original content, creating a spin based on a corrupted-memory type setup, and redirecting the core content just enough that people who've played it a lot couldn't just play by memory (although a lot of it we could/did, because the universe was that well preserved). As much as people will read it as pure fan service (and it kind of is?), it's nice to see another game slide into the skin of another, telling its story in a pocket universe; most game cross-overs are lazy and just throw skins in with no 'feel' of the original, so it was very well done from that point of view too. It'd be nice to see more Tall Tales of this quality and approach, though other than more Monkey Island, I'm not sure what fits the bill as readily (given it's a point-and-click adventure, so it's very flexible in terms of how they could do things!).

    Regarding boss fights:
I absolutely agree on the 3rd boss fight; it just felt weird and uneven, in part because of the tuning of the ship. The 2nd fight tale boss fight was mostly just made tedious by having to learn all of the retorts first (and that being an epic quest due to constantly moving and the mechanic not translating that well to SOT); with two people, one person can just block while the other hits them from behind, so you can speed it up a lot. The 1st 'boss fight' (final fight?) event was mostly fine for what it was.

I can't comment on the final rewards, as the sword is quite nice (I'm using it now), but I'm hit by the 'complete everything' bug not giving me my rewards. I mostly just want the shanty.
