Please do not allow commendation and achievement earning in safer seas.

  • As title states, by allowing people to earn these commendations and achievements within a single player world it belittles the efforts those of us have achieved them by doing them in the high seas with proper threats.

Commendations currently are a form of experience and time spent successfully eluding other ships threats to hand in those treasures or complete those achievements. If you allow people to just earn these sitting in a single player server with no threat than they become meaningless. They are no longer a bragging right or a sense of pride because it becomes easy to get and pretty much handed to you If you sit in single player long enough.

The level cap should be lower, and all commendations and achievements, maybe aside from tall tales should be exclusive to high seas. It won't be popular for the people that have been complaining about pve for however many years, but the true long term fans of this game understand, what type of game this is and how it is meant to be played, and its those you should be throwing a bone to right now.

You have said for years you would not buckle to pve servers and we have been behind you all the way. It's a pirate game with shared experiences at the heart of it. The content in game is there to drive those player on player interactions (not necessarily all fighting). I get you want a kind of tutorial introduction to the game, but make it just that. Enough content to give you a feel for pve aspects of the game and somewhere maybe for tall tales to be done safely and nothing more. The least you can now do after backtracking is not wipe the achievements of the current long term player base!

  • At the very least, some require player interactions or other crew involvement to achieve. BUT the real issue is not the commendations but the player themselves.

With safer seas, those players will mostly be those who dont even care for them.

What they need to do is add 'special' rewards. Revamp the old commendations in someway, so if they want those rewards they have to play High Seas. Or very least they have to unlock them to continue other parts.

Frankly, They need to Rename the Safe Seas. Make it "Maiden Seas" and Tall Tales only with minor voyages active. After all it suppose to be a place to "Learn" and do TT in a safe place. Put more encouragement into the High Sea area, make it "Hey if you want this ship set, you have to play HS" or what some people I hear say, those TT curses.

While at it, since SS is build around Tall Tales exploring, remove TT from High Seas. Nobody is gonna do them in HS if you can do them in safety someplace else and still earn full rewards. That way you can make High Seas a more dangerous place and separate. If you wanna do TT, Safe Seas. If not, HS

thanks for that real insightful and well thought out response!

  • This environment can use some more humility, the status/social hierarchy stuff has been a struggle for the game imo.

Imo we all played a part, we all play a part and nobody and no group or power is entirely to blame.

Significance is important, it helps with drive and motivation and challenging scenarios but so much of the significance in this game has turned into status and imo it's lead to a much less pleasant social environment for sot.

I'm someone that avoids status and is very attached to significance so I understand when people feel that significance is being removed or changed. I do understand it but I just don't think we've been on course with some of this status stuff.

The backdrop to adults fighting and chest pounding and really being quite unpleasant to one another in a variety of ways is kids shooting pets out of cannons. It got too serious. It runs people outta here. It becomes a bubble of people that have been around for years just bickering about the same stuff with the same people and the outside world sees a goofy game that is taken too far.

As long as SoT is around the above will exist here, but it can improve. It can become more pleasant socially and for more people rather than just the ones that have been around for years.

I think this will help that, as it is designed. Even if just a little I think that will lead to more adventures for more people.

  • @shell2k6

    You're welcome.

    Btw:
How will you know if someone has a commendation to begin with if they don't use the attached title?
Let alone how they got it?

I have Fleet of Fancy because when captaincy launched I decided to cheese 13m gold into buying, naming then deleting sloops 15 times. You mad I didn't get 15 ships to legendary first? Boohoo.

Choose a path. Don't force others to take yours if a better way gets found.

How many OG Athena voyages did you do? Year 1 PL? Didn't cap out each expansion? Didn't make it to 30 until Veils were introduced?

Do you use the harpoon or sell at a Sovereign?

  • Imagine loading up safer seas to show your friend and that's when you finally get the shrouded ghost.
