Dang near a day one pirate and I've yet to see the ghost, My wife and I used to play this game almost every day since and no ghost but some 1st week player sees it 3 times etc. you got to up the rate on this thing for the love of god.

The only reason it's significant is because of your story
it took me around 2 years of daily hunting to get 1 and around the same to get the second
well over 5k confirmed megs and far more than that with unconfirmed for 2
and a new player could get one in the first week, that's awesome, people with far less encounters than me have more shrouded than me, that's awesome
that's why it's the last thing in the game that hasn't been cheesed to death.
I am concerned that they will cave at some point just as an activity carrot and I sure hope they never do.

a long time ago before I got my first I met these kids on an open crew brig and they both had it like two weeks in, was awesome
at that point I was like 1000 megs or so in, so it was fun to see people get it and really not even care that much because of being so new.
anything is possible with the shrouded, I've seen some that have 3 that have fairly low encounter numbers for having 3
I suppose it can happen, being an RNG based match, the probabilities are infinite and random.
But honestly, I highly doubt that the same player has seen the Shrouded 3 times in a week. I've seen it 2 times in 4 years, there are people on my friends list with +10,000 hours who have seen it zero times.
The only thing that bothers me about it being a luck-dependent encounter is that it has praise that doesn't allow me to get 100% of one of the reputations, it should be an invisible praise, that doesn't affect completists.

had the title on, which isn't unusual for new players, they often will use meg/kraken titles as they unlock them, it just happened to be that one
haven't seen it often on new players but it does happen from time to time, more so early on when meg spawns were more consistent and people killed them more often
My theory is that shrouded are missed quite often around the seas. So many people afk between islands and get meg'd during combat/off their ship while it's sailing or during tough to tell conditions that I think many have just missed one.
Actually missed one, not the "I saw one once.. but this happened" stories lol
It has a different music cue. How are you missing it in combat?

They do now, they didn't for a long time
in combat it would be super easy in a game with constant boarding while their ships are often sailing off/out of distance.
Now that they have other people's megs despawn without fighting other crews it would be very very easy to miss out on someone else's meg now.
Also audio issues are common and meg sounds can be drown out by skelly ship or event sounds.
