If this isn't a perfect opportunity for a collaboration, I don't know what is!

  • alt text

Look yall.. One Piece hype is absolutely going CRAZY right now, all over the world. Between increasingly more and more hype manga chapters, the anime finally reaching Gear 5, and now the live-action series, One Piece fans are eating GOOD!!

This was just posted today on Xbox and One Piece socials - marking an official collab between Netflix/One Piece and Xbox/Microsoft. I feel this is the PERFECT opportunity to add One Piece cosmetics to Sea of Thieves. Not only would it bring in new players to the game, it would bring old players back, who also love One Piece.

I know I've posted about a collaboration/crossover before, and while I'd still love a full-on crossover event, I am perfectly content with getting a cosmetic collaboration, instead, similarly to Halo, Gears of War, etc.

PLEASE RARE, make this dream come true :D!

  • @valor-omega 5 days ago there was a duplicate post of yours:

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/161077/my-hope-for-the-next-crossover-event-one-piece/10

    For some light reading.

From a personal point of view, I have never seen any mention of One Piece being mentioned in relation to Sea of Thieves other than One Piece fans wanting a crossover 'because pirates' on the Forums.

As for PotC and Monkey Island, they have often been quoted as inspirations/influences in the development of Sea of Thieves.

The same goes for Goonies and Indiana Jones, which I think would fit more (and already have nods/influences).

Just because something has Pirates doesn't automatically mean it should be a 'thing' in Sea of Thieves.

Also, isn't there already a straw hat in Sea of Thieves?

    No thanks.

  • For the 3rd time recently...

The thing with OP is that the art is a huge part of the brand and they would have to be willing to have SoT art substituted which I just don't see happening and we sure don't want two different art styles in one game.

  • @tesiccl Yes, that was my post. That was also BEFORE they unveiled the One Piece | Xbox console collaboration.

I'll respectfully disagree. Again, a full-on crossover will likely never happen, and that's fine, but a cosmetic collaboration similar to what we've seen from other games would be VERY welcome, and I feel like many folks would agree.

I would make the argument that Gears of War, and Halo don't really fit in Sea of Thieves style, yet those are in the game as cosmetics. If those can be put in game, I genuinely feel like One Piece cosmetics could make the cut.

  • @foambreaker Yep, my post lol. Again, was posted before this collab came to light. The fact that Netflix is officially collaborating with Xbox gives me more hope. If Gears of War and Halo can be fit into SoT, I see no reason why One Piece can't.

In my previous post, I was pushing for a crossover event. Here, I'm just asking for a cosmetic addition strictly for the Netflix series.

  • @valor-omega

a cosmetic collaboration similar to what we've seen from other games would be VERY welcome, and I feel like many folks would agree.

    This is major hope, unlikely.

  • @tesiccl Why do you think it's unlikely? It's clear that Netflix/One Piece has ALREADY collaborated with Microsoft to do the Xbox. Small yes, but still that's official communication between the two giants. I don't think it's a stretch to think that they'd talk about a collab between the two.

You may be right that it won't happen, but I feel there's at least a CHANCE, now. Again, if GoW, and Halo can have themed cosmetics in SoT, I feel like OPLA can. A Going Merry shipset would certainly fit far more than the energy sword and spartan costume, imho.

  • First I've ever heard of or seen this property, literally ever. Despite its apparent lifespan, it is decidedly niche. Seems like if there is a list of collaboration ideas there are others that should for sure be higher on the list than this?

  • I think you are little too obsessed to be a valid source.

No offence, but you aren't on the hype train, you ARE the hype train. Not just on the forums, but other socials as well.

I really doubt this will happen. I also feel like posting 3 times about it here, several times on different platforms and pinging developers won't change much. What I am saying is that deals like this are serious, and you should really calm down a little. Respectfully.

  • @thorumsu Woah! I never claimed to be a valid source of anything, just giving my two cents and putting hopes out there!

As far as hype goes, you're absolutely right, I am hype, and I think that's okay! If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, but if it DOES, I think there are a lot more people than you may realize that'd be happy for such cosmetics.

Oh come on, mate! It's all in good fun, honestly. As far as deals go, I don't disagree, which is why the Xbox | Netflix One Piece collab surprised me as much as it did. If there was talk between the two already, I don't think it out of the realm of possibility.

Again, it may never happen, and that's fine if it doesn't. All in good fun/hype. :) Definitely not trying to come across as annoying, or anything.

  • The issue is that Netflix doesn't control the videogame rights, only the rights to this live action series adaption. This collaboration with Xbox is purely for promoting that series.

As far as I can tell, Bandai Namco have the videogame rights, and have done for two decades, and any crossover with another videogame IP might require them to be involved - depending on what deal they have with the original One Piece IP holders (Eiichiro Oda maybe?). If Bandai Namco have sole videogame rights, even the original IP holder would need their permission to do a crossover (similar to the whole Sony Spider-man situation).

Not saying it will never happen but IP and copyright laws are complicated.

  • @realstyli To that effect, creating ship sets from the actual Netflix series itself could be the solution! Though, it certainly wouldn't be the first time an anime series had some kind of collab with a popular video game (Naruto and Fortnite). May well not happen to be sure, but cool to think about.

  • @valor-omega

Again, no offence. What I meant is that you already made your point several times before... On various platforms.

  • @thorumsu None taken, mate! If it's better, I can absolutely delete the first post, as to not flood anything. I feel like this post is at least a bit more grounded than the first one, as there's talking points, given the Xbox | Netflix collab.

  • It isn't a perfect opportunity, in fact it really isn't an opportunity at all.

It's rough enough that Monkey Island, to many casual SoT players unaware of such a game series, feels niche of an addition, even if the tall tales are a somewhat refreshing deviation from the usual gameplay of SoT. A tongue-and-cheek emporium set of cosmetics to an anime/manga with far too much to get caught up on in a single sitting?

I don't think it would gain much traction, on top of that, I think a fair amount of common forum-goers are growing weary of the emporium getting content we pay up to $50 USD for, over the outpost shops that see nothing but recolors, re-released cosmetics from previous events, and barely enough good looking "pirate-y" outfits for a good weight of gold in our endlessly filling pockets.

Dreams like these are wishful, but also a little more farfetched to the casual eye, Netflix series adaptation withstanding.

  • Definitely not trying to come across as annoying, or anything.

3 posts about the same topic that could have been under 1 is annoying, it clutters the forums, and makes you look like you’re trying to push something onto forum members and devs that just isn’t wanted.

Look at the interaction you’ve had between these 3 posts. Have people really responded positively? On the whole, no. Most have no idea what One Piece is. Not a good start if you’re wanting to sell emporium items based on an anime people haven’t heard of. My quoted original reply said it best:

I have never seen any mention of One Piece being mentioned in relation to Sea of Thieves other than One Piece fans wanting a crossover 'because pirates' on the Forums.

Disagree if you like, but you’re the only one hyping it up.

  • @tesiccl I only am aware of the other post that I made - if someone else made one, I can't speak to that. As I said, I can absolutely delete the other one.

To be fair, I really don't think interactions from a handful of people is an appropriate sample size for how people may or may not react to such an addition.

I do respectfully disagree, but again, this is all in good fun. Compared to some of the other redundant, whiny posts that people regularly type up, I think two posts is pretty tame.

  • @valor-omega don’t need to delete the previous ones, just don’t create another topic under the same thing as not to clutter the forum unless the post is 30+ days old. If you want to add on to an older topic that isn’t 30+ days old, by all means, go ahead. It’s just useful for everyone who wants to talk about the topic so things aren’t split all over the place.

  • @tesiccl You bet - I legit didn't mean to come across as obnoxious. It's just Sea of Thieves and One Piece mean a lot to me, and seeing that collab post sent my hype through the roof, admittedly.

  • @valor-omega we can tell 😂

  • I just watched the trailer for the first time

it looks like they did a great job on making something that even people outside of the fandom will enjoy.

Cast looks solid, looks like they did great on the action scenes, love the vibe and the designs of it. Seems like a quality weekend binge for anyone looking to escape a bit.

    Hopefully the fans love it.

  • I wouldn't mind some One Piece bits and bobs

  • @wolfmanbush Agreed, mate! Personally, I only somewhat recently began my journey watching the One Piece anime (currently in the Water 7 Arc), but it quickly captivated me and became a fast favorite, for sure.

I've been closely following the development of the live-action series, and everything just looks and feels incredible. The sheer amount of dedication from everyone working on the show is astounding, and the casting for the characters is spot-on. Nevermind the fact that Oda has been heavily involved in all the decision-making for the show!

I know many folks were apprehensive for such a beloved series to get the live-action treatment, especially since they've historically been bad. But DANG, reviews are coming in from both critics AND fans who got to see early premiers, and they are all overwhelmingly positive. I think this may actually be the live-action adaptation to break the curse!

  • @pithyrumble Yea! Having the Merry, or Red Force as ship sets would be incredible!

  • @merlin-mav-k One Piece is one of the biggest manga in japan, ever. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it isn't big.

I see no reason against a crossover. Why not? As a One Piece fan, I know I would 100% buy a going merry ship set. And I know some friends who would too. The only reason it might not happen because One Piece is too big for a SoT collab, not the other way around. Of course there is the issue of rights, but besides that, why not?

  • As it stands, what i saw from the live action one piece trailer, i dont have high hopes for it and would not base a collaboration on it. The animated show would be a better opportunity to base it on, but like i said in your other post, one piece and sot are silly pirate themed things, but they are silly in opposite ways, and it feels like it would clash too much to make something that works.

  • @goldsmen I would definitely reserve judgement for when it releases, Thursday - there was a massive fan screening in LA, and Paris where they showed the first episode. Both events were met with resounding positivity, and the Paris event that just happened had hundreds of people clapping, cheering, and it got a standing ovation!

The first trailer definitely missed the mark a bit, but the second one was far better, to be sure.

  • @riptide3683 I think it'd honestly be more likely to get a collab with Netflix One Piece cosmetics. The more realistic style would be easier for the devs to translate to SoT, than the style from the anime/manga. I'm 100% down though, haha. Give me Going Merry and Red Force!

They would have to be willing to have their art, which is for them a HUGE part of their brand, redrawn in non-anime by SoT. That is just not a question that Rare can answer. You are on the wrong forums.

as long as the writing/delivery isn't distracting in one way or another it should be fine

people look for wholesome family adventure content, it's easy to watch, it's easy to re-watch, it's appropriate for the whole family, enough things going on to keep the kids interested

Nothing sticks out to me (from what I've seen) that should cause them much of an issue, assuming the show isn't entirely different than the trailer.

Even if part of the fanbase is critical they should pick up plenty of casual viewers to do alright.

  • @Foambreaker It's not impossible, mate! If you don't think it's possible, that's your two cents, which I can respect. But, IF a cosmetic collab were to happen, it'd likely be for the live-action show, not the anime. Given that Rare has already translated realistic ships (Black Pearl, Flying Dutchman, Queen Anne's Revenge) into the SoT style, I don't think it impossible for them to do the same, for OPLA's ships.

  • I don't want to be "doom and gloom" over someone else's favourite IP, we all have something we'd like to see brought from another game into this one I'm sure, but I just don't really see much of a place in the game for any kind of crossover beyond a small handful of clothing and some sails. Personal... distaste, for the One Piece artstyle and character design aside, I just don't really want to see ANY more crossovers whatsoever after they're done with Monkey Island.

POTC was understandable, as the game has been heavily compared alongside possibly one of THE most popular pieces of pirate-based material in the media.
Monkey Island, while I don't have any personal attachment or nostalgia to the game, was also an OK move as the humour, style, and... well everything obviously, has both inspired the entire game as a whole and fits the atmosphere of the game well.

One Piece though..? I don't know that much about it but it's not as worldwide-known as POTC, and as an anime, I can't really see it fitting the style, humour or atmosphere of the game comfortably.
It might be nice to have a few cosmetic references towards it but I'm still sticking by what I said before, during and after POTC crossover came out; I don't want the game to turn into another fortnite. I don't want them to force things where they don't belong and to be kept alive by crossovers. Crossovers rarely bring anything long-term and substantial to the game itself and just complicate other companies and legal issues etc etc

  • Aw no please not weird weeb stuff.

Cool collaborations, like Halo, Ori, Gears - grand. Fantastic, well loved, well known.

Anime stuff just…. Just….. just naw.

    Sorry.

Ill be real with you, cheering at a special screening does not say much about quality to me. I have seen people cheer and rave over some of the most mundane things.

It's never been a part of my life, I don't think I've ever seen much more than just what gets posted around the internet. When I was younger I had a similar take, about anime, about all kinds of things but I think it was a bad take on my part.

At the core it's mostly about storytelling and character development which is at the core of SoT as well.
