Skull Of Destiny Map Marker

  • I had this idea in my head for a few days, and im curious if anyone else is onboard for it, or if it would be a bad idea. Basically i was thinking what if the skull of destiny worked similar to a fof key or old reaper chest, where the moment its dug up, its shown on the map for all to see!

The reason i thought of this is that it would be a sort of risk reward system for the fotd, since originally the fort was supposed to be a challenge to gather up the lights for. This change would be minimal since not everyone would look at the map to spot it, but since it would be able to announce to the server where you are and where you will be going. It could bring some to consider taking the classic method to start the fotd in order to not give away what they are going to do.

But that is only my stance on this idea, but if anyone has a twist to the idea, or thinks the idea belongs in the scrap yard, feel free to say!

  • All of the top end chests and items should have a map marker, but the sky beam needs to be removed.

I think specific ones should for sure, but im not totally sure about all.

  • @goldsmen FOTD is the risk. Gathering the item that helps start the fort be advertised isn’t exactly fair. It’ll just give those who want to tuck there even more time to prepare and set up for it.

That was the intent, if a tucker or some one wanting to steal sees that on the map, it gives them more time to ready for it. The general idea was risk vs reward. You risk giving people more time to prep and spot you, but are rewarded with a faster method to start the fotd.

I just figure since the skull is a direct upgrade to the old method, it gives little reason to do the old method other than if you arnt pl.

  • @goldsmen you’re also having to pay heavily for it so I don’t think the spicy map marker should punish you further for choosing to get the lights the short way. It feels balanced the way it is now.

  • @goldsmen why would it need that, as soon as its used for its intended purpase there is a massive marker in the sky

The logic was something that could pre warn people what is going to happen before it does since even though a fotd puts a marker up in the sky, it can be done pretty quick. This would just give the thieving sort even more time/chance to prep for any kind of attack or steal.

The big reason behind it however is cause of how much time the skull cuts out to start up the fotd, so people would have to choose between announcing what they plan, or taking extra time to do it. The skull of destiny is a drastic time cut from the classic method.

  • @goldsmen its a time cut for sure, but since the fotd is practically in the center of the map it should be no issue to make it there from any place on the map even with a galleon against wind.

The thing is, people tend to stack skulls of destiny before going to fotd and subsequently stack that (no not everybody but i would say most)

Having a fotd with 10 or so skulls being marked on it adds nothing

  • Not a fan of this personally, and I say this as someone who has done my 50 and doesn't actually need anymore.
They have made fotd too easy, but that's the world event balancing I don't think prior warning is the answer.

Solo colours was a massive difficulty nerf

  • I have a twist on the idea. Tucking sucks. :D period.

If you are a streamer, doing 12 hour streams, it makes sense spending at least 25% of that time tucking, while responding to your subscribers etc.

If you are a regular player, why on earth you would just wait and wait and wait and wait and then try to pull it off the success rate would probably be the same as if you just went head on against odds and fought for it.

Also I don't agree with the skull being marked on the map. Everyone knows Fotd is active when its active.

Also the value of the skull does not match FOF/FOTD key, as that one opens the vault that gives you 100k, where as the skull only activates FOTD itself.

I would happily support this idea, if FOTD payout would be doubled. At the moment having a beacon after a beacon for 150k will make it less popular and this is while flying reapers.

I can definitely get behind fotd paying out better, it does seem lackluster for the original effort needed, and for a target that is almost guaranteed to have some one doing it, marking a good steal target, its very high risk for average reward right now.

  • I dont agree with this.

People gathering the lights didnt advertise a FoTD was inbound until the cloud appeared in the sky; digging up the skull shouldnt either.

  • How I would bypass this:

    • find Ritual Skulls (not that hard to get, just a small bit of a time investment)
    • dig Skull of Destiny
    • put all lights on my ship
    • dump or bury Skull of Destiny.

This seems like an unnecessary change and would be ineffective when alternatives to the Skull of Destiny exist.

That is an exploit i absolutely didnt even think of with this! Well... That kind of put a very sudden end to the idea tbh.
