More content for Hunter's Call

  • I like going on fishing trips and killing the occasional Megaladon or Kraken, but I wanted to bring up a few ideas for giving Hunter's Call a bit more variety.

    • Oysters and pearls! This has been suggested before, but that was four years ago, and watching the Castaway pull out a black pearl and toss it in the fire made me realize how glaring a gap there is in pearl-based treasure. I really enjoy finding shinies in the shallows around islands. Diving for oysters or other shelled morsels (clams, snails, abalone, mussels, etc) would take those fun kinda discoveries to the next level. There could even be giant oysters, with a chance for giant pearls.
    • Spearfishing! This has aslo been suggested. There'd probably have to be a separate pool of fish that could only be caught with a spear, like eels, octopi, flounders, and the like.
    • Bugs! Not that kind of bug. I mean butterflies, beetles, centipedes, spiders -- critters you might have to chase down and catch in a net.
    • Land Beasts! Landlubbing (or amphibious?) minibosses that stalk some of the larger islands. You'd probably have to track them by footprints, chicken/pig/snake remains, and other signs to get them to spawn, and then kill them for their meat (and a valuable trophy).

    that's an adorable idea

would be cool to catch fireflies in the game

There are a lot of people in the game that enjoy the more chill type of games where people roam around collecting stuff so I think it would be a cute addition that some would enjoy.

This is one of the more realistic hunter's call suggestions. Would add some nice variety to the hunter playstyle. I like it.

They'd make for some really nice boat trinkets, too. In the same vein as those fish trophy mounts, you could have framed and pinned bugs for walls, and bug jars/enclosures for shelves.

  • Necroing this dusty ol' thread to add some other ideas:

    • More dynamic sea monster encounters! Like a monster that flees after taking enough damage, but has to stay surfaced to properly breathe (like a whale); you might have to harpoon it to keep up, and it would drag you around the map until it tired out. I could see these creating some interesting stories, since you could use one to escape a pursuer (or get into even more trouble).
    • Feeding frenzies! These "hot zones" could have a broader fishing loot pool than usual for the area, with a few exclusive fishies (and way more sharks).
    • Giant hermit crabs! These scamps could spawn with a random chest/skull as their shell, or a shell encrusted with smaller treasures (valuable to any trading company, but especially to the Hunter's Call). When picked up, they'd emerge and scuttle away, turning a scavenger hunt into a chase!
    • Pictobox! A chest-sized, old-timey camera that could be purchased and picked up from any Hunter's Call outpost. Hunting beasties for meat is great, but capturing their image in their natural habitat could be a worthy challenge as well.
  • so in the latest podcast they hinted they were brain storming a hunters call update. yet we have the whole next year of updates spoiled for us by them and not a mention of hunterscall so...... rip?

  • @keylessword4029 Maybe these are features that can be added alongside main updates.

There should be more content for HC as lately seems somewhat dead. We should have reasons to visit the seaposts again because they look abandoned now.
