Hour glass invasion problem

  • Spent 2+ hours waiting for invasion at grade five loot. Match making said two to three minutes for dive so what gives? It appears that something is off, I thought Rare kept a spare slot free to allow invasion. If not then stacking is a waste of time for HG.

If the server is full then maybe we need a mechanism to be able to dive with the loot or a way to consolidate it. My suggestion would be sailing to seadogs taven, selling to a sea dog rep. They don't give you gold but for every 20k worth of loot the seadog drops sea dog flag worth 20k. This allows you to maintain your loot while switching servers. It would take some time to do so I don't see how it would be worth doing for any other reason except hour glass.

  • @miserenz were you near other ships? I feel like there may be mechanics in place to prevent ambushes where like how you can't dive with rival ships nearby, you can't be invaded either.

    If so, norty norty 😅

Just to add, I don't intentionally defend but last few times I've raised hourglass but not dived I have been invaded relatively quickly

  • @hiradc
We sailed all over the map and did not see anyone but good point. I think next time we may sail to the far corner where we can be certain. Really though being near other ships should not matter.

It does matter; in the early days of Hourglass there were alliances waiting to get invaded - making it from the start a 1v2, 1v3, 1v4 fight against the invader. Not fun for most as a solo sloop vs 1 solo sloop and one or more other (full crewed) ships.

  • @lem0n-curry
That is a fair point. But there needs to be sort of way increasing your chances of being invaded. While it would be nice to have some sort of indicator on the hour glass that invasion was possible it could be used as a radar to detect other ships. The more I think about it the more the flag charging idea seems to be a goer, since that would allow you to move between servers while maintaining your grade at the expense of accommodations. There could even be a conversation penalty 20k of loot for a 10k flag.

Not getting invaded can be because of proximity of other ships but also because the server is full.

Perhaps after a certain time an hourglass ship should get a server change just like if it was the only ship on a server and then after a short time be invaded.

Issues with that might be alliances the hourglass ship might be in though.

  • Reached both level 100+ on Guardians of fortune and Defenders of the flame and not once did i encounter a single ship with a single treasure on board doing the HG battles so definitely something off.

I myself tried HG a few times with treasure on board but didn't seem worth while with the huge possibility of losing everything in mere seconds.

  • @miserenz I feel like your priority for being invaded should increase with your loot stash level. It's win win that grade 5 gets to defend and invaders potentially get as reward

  • @eva1977 ah nice fair play from your previous posts you gave off vibes of giving up on hg as too difficult 👍

  • @hiradc it's more like a flip of a coin, you can get someone which is at your level and a fair encounter, the next one you get blown away 3 or 4 times in a row by the same player and the one after that just someone farming loses.
So it seems more like lacking an accurate HG pairing system that is fair.

  • If another ship is near you, you won't get invaded.

If another battle is happening taking up that 7th spot, you won't get invaded.

However, if you get to treasure grade 5 and lower your hourglass you get about 3/4 the equivalent of sinking another ship. So if you had activated: get up to Treasure Grade 5&wait 15 min, then lowered, and done that on repeat for those 2 hours you could have gained at least levels from just that. (NOTE: To get allegiance for just lowering you NEED to have that faction's emissary flag flying. won't work with others.

  • @reverend-toast I thought you need to successfully defend the loot for it to add any bonus? Sounds bit buggy otherwise.

  • @hiradc Running hourglass, and getting up to treasure grade 5 IS technically putting your loot at risk, so it is working as intended. We have gone for hours waiting to be invaded, without a bite before... this lets you play in the mode, and still get something if you don't get invaded.

  • @reverend-toast with the other mechanic mentioned where you don't get invaded with other ships nearby though this would be an abuseable method of levelling via pve which seems against the intent

  • @reverend-toast
I have to agree with @HiradC , sounds like I can potentially pve my way... if I get lucky...

I would try it but you don't get any loser points when you defend...

  • You CAN level with PvE, turning in a treasure grade 5 hourglass from loot stacking gives some rep

But it is pathetically low, so annoying stacking loot and not getting invaded

Defence needs some love and attention, it is not working properly

  • @hiradc Its a much much slower method of leveling: Will never get a multiplier since it doesn't go past HG level 0. Other ships, even when not invading you, can still sink you and you both lose your treasure and move to a different server... so it is exactly how it is intended.

You should never be penalized for the game not having you get invaded: If a server is full, and there already is an invading ship, (Especially with a battle that has ships resetting every minute... or one that just has someone trying to consistently board and has their ship just evading), you will not get invaded at all. You get enought treasure, get to treasure grade 5, turn in, you get a little bit of alleigance... no extra money, just a bit of rep. You put it up again, none of that treasure works, you have to get more treasure.

Yes you can do a fleet (NOt collect the treasure), load it all up onto your ship and get to grade 5, and go turn in that hourglass... however you have to wait 15 min from when you raised till you can successfully lower it.

Now, yes, someone could totally have another ship close to them preventing them from being invaded... but the alternative is allowing people to merge into a server with other ships in close proximity and we enter the server alliance issue again.

But yes you can totally PVE yourself to slowly level up hourglass... it would take a long time, but this is something the developers SAID you can do and it is intended.

  • Yea I thought they were going to keep the 6th ship slot empty for the sake of invasions. As a ship cant invade on a full server. Though some discord communities were exploiting this and just keeping 5 ships parked together waiting for the invasion ship to destroy them.

They did 1 fix where other ships should get hourglass progress if it isn't their battle but I think opening up the 6th ship slot was just a secondary measure to preventing this behavior but it also means on a full server you wont be invaded. You can at least hand in your hourglass at grade 5 = about 1 win then sell all your loot and raise the hourglass again and go back out and level it back up.

Sad how neglected the hourglass system has been. Sure we got some updates to it but overall it needed a ton of attention and got very little. Reminds me of arena.
