Make seagulls more visible at night

  • Seagulls are a key factor of voyages like lost shipments. The problem is, when you do that voyage at night, they're nearly invisible even with the spyglass. It gets even worse when there're clouds behind them in your line of view (clouds make it a lot harder to find seagulls even at day). It's just not fun to do these voyages, especially at night, because of how easily you can lose track of them (i've lost count of how many times i found the seagulls with my spyglass, took a few seconds to raise the sails a bit, and the seagulls were nowhere to be found again)

A simple solution would be to make the seagulls emit a very faint glow at night or when there are objects behind them through your line of view. As it is right now, it is nearly impossible to complete a lost shipment at cloudy nights without having x-ray vision.

  • Rare , actually recently added a brightness feature in game. Very nice QOL addition i might add. Solves issues like this. I have mine set to 69 brightness and that's about good for seeing better at night but still not being too bright for daytime.

Some of the suggestions here are very unnecessary considering the new brightness setting.

It's not the same thing. I'm suggesting a faint glow in the seagulls, not in everything. It's different and more convenient

    don't use a spyglass.

    A simple solution

Stand in the crowsnest. Use the Moon light.
Check your map and sail exactly as it says. Increase your own brightness.

As it is right now, it is nearly impossible to complete a lost shipment at cloudy nights without having x-ray vision.

(Has used the above recommendation and hasn't had a single problem)

What? And how am i supposed to find them if even at DAY they're almost invisible with the naked eye

  • I’ve been asking for this change for a year+. Dunno if they will ever add it. I am visually impaired and so I can’t find them at night at all. I either have to have someone on my ship who can see them at night or I have to wait until sunrise. And guess which of those 2 options more reliably happens? Yeah… I just waste 8 minutes every time I do one of the voyages. I usually go walk around an island or sell what I have or go make food IRL. It’s dumb that I have to do that though. Wish there was some accessibility feature for it.

Exactly, i'm not even visually impaired and it's hard for me to see them too, they should make them emit a faint glow at night

  • It is not that they are difficult to see, they completely disappear at dusk. at least since I started playing again about a month ago. I was looking through my scope, the sun set, and they disappeared, only to reappeared the following morning right on top of me. the loot was invisible too, until the sun came up. The game needs better quest markers, period.

  • @typicalink500 I'm going to say no why get ride of the challenge of looking for something sure their tough to see but it's also wreckage in the ocean it shouldn't be easy to find ....... I also tried of games making everything easier SoT used to have tough enemies, Skeleton ships, Megs, and the Kraken all used to be a threat on the HighSeas now they're a joke. quests don't need to be made easier either easy doesn't equal fun at lest in my opinion i want challenge from both pve and pvp(this one is usually meet my crew sucks at it🤣)

  • It's strange that with some things they push strongly for accessibility like rocks having sound for visually impaired but these birds are difficult to see with perfect vision depending on time of day, contrast etc. Maybe a sound when you look at them down spyglass. Wonder if worth raising through the accessibility request instead

  • @anceitus You are correct and it might be worth raising a ticket to support rather than resurrecting a post that is over 6 months old :)
Sorry me matey, gotta drop anchor.
