Hackers Session Hopping FoFs

  • So here's the story, me and my brig crew were session hopping for FoFs and were doing this all day basically. During this time we encountered two players on un captained sloop that were clearly teleporting and magically making wholes in our ship.

Now this wouldn't be an odd ecounter for most of us everyonce in a while but for this to happen 3 times is very odd!

First time we encountered them we all leave after being blasted by their magic holes, and seeing them teleport around on our ship. We were not having that.

After that we actually did a FoF and it was fine, ecountered another sloop who wasn't hacking.

Next time we encountered the same exact hackers from before, because it was the exact same names we reported. Then it happend again right after another session hop from being dunnked.

We almost thought they were following us but it occurred to me their likely just doing the same thing as us, plus using the hacks.

Realizing that Rare should actually do something about session hopping like this. I now feel bad for session hopping because its gonna encourage hackers more.

Is there a way Rare can detect players who are session hopping as the host? Maybe some system to lock players from playing for a certain ammount of time through a beard error or something, if you session hop too quickly?

Like " HASTYBEARD " - You switched sessions too many times, wait x amount of time and come back later.

  • Tbf it’s punishing those who are looking for that spicy content or want to get in about a fight. Not all of us want to sit and wait for something to happen. Your idea would punish those who do. Nothing wrong with hopping, cheaters will cheat regardless.

The question here I would like to ask is this: Does a servers' seas matter or all servers supposed to be in a sense one collective sea? Don't like this is server's combat offerings for an encounter hope to another one more favorable? Is the server world important or just one or a small handful of events that can pop up on one as opposed to another ? I would think personally on the lines of Sea of Thieves over "Event(s) Only" of Thieves.

  • Ran into the same thing recently.

  • Cant. Streamers server hop constantly trying to find even a drop of content in this game. Rare would never jeopardize that.

  • @sairdontis it depends what loot that event offers. Right now FoF’s are the hot spot because there is a new chest available to unlock new items within the game. Naturally more crews are going to get involved going for this event and if hopping satisfies that search then all Rare are going to care about is that crews are interacting with each other, ergo, ticking the success box of that “content”.

  • Can we fix the actual problem here instead which are that this game STILL HAS HACKERS. Just ran into some in HG who could instant climb ladder and had hilarious cannon aim bot as their shots were tracking my friend who fell off the boat from a tile away not to mention being able to quickswap mid air.

Good point. I guess new players should get a breather as long as they are not going for FoF and stick to the other content available in the game. Win win possibly? Maybe they could add a second to even third ring to the FoF event outside the fort itself with the center area the fort again itself the highest risk/reward part of the event ?

@Nitroxien and agreed Hackers are the worst and of course should be (IMO) shown the door as soon as possible.

  • @sairdontis my biggest complaint is when people advocate for easier experiences when it comes to newer players. Yes, the vets have the experience and have learned an awful lot from their time playing, but in the environment SoT is, newbies must go against more experienced players in order to learn and get better. It may not always result in combat and sinking them, but being taught and given actual advice over the mic/pirate chat. I’ve helped a number of players who I’ve come across and answered their questions as best as I could when they’re new. Other times, if they’ve fired first, I’ve fought back, they sink, but I know they’ve learned something valuable from the combat, mistakes they made etc. Every interaction with other players in this game is valuable and we should always encourage old and new players to team up or face each other, it’s healthy for the game, and in some cases, creates lasting bonds and cherished memories, which is the whole darn point of the game ^^

  • Hurts my head when players confuse "hackers" for "modders"
It real shame to be frank....If you really encountered a Hacker, this topic would be more about you losing all your stuff, account, gold, them shooting magic cannon balls that never missed, truly scary stuff.

  • @burnbacon Most of us know the difference it's just common trope to call anyone doing anything of the sort a " hacker ". lol Don't scare yourself too much.

  • @grizzly2511 This is an indication of a lack of time put into other content. If Chest of Fortune is the current FOMO the hackers will come like beez, I just want them gone and am trying to figure out ways to prevent them from cheezing the session hopping, i use hopping my self so i get everyones defense for it. Just sucks.

Streamers can still hop for content

What would be the issue of only allowing SERVER hopping though portal hops???? @everyone

Would solve the issue of them getting instant passes to FoFs. You see what im saying?

So then wait till next Season when a larger portion of the community get involved with wherever the Chest of Fortune goes next.

I don't like that I had to make an answer as dry as BurnBacon, but honestly, if you're going to constantly get into encounters with cheaters, maybe it's time to either take a break from the game, or do something else so you aren't turning into a beaming target for cretins like that to bother you.

Sometimes there is such a thing as "you missed your chance", and if getting cheaters every FoF is something that is occurring, then yeah, you were uh, a little too late to attempt the grind.

Additionally, don't forget to send detailed reports with video evidence to the Support team, so that the developers can hopefully find a (temporary) solution to reduce encounters with cheaters.

  • @nex-stargaze I mean I'm not screaming here, brother, all is good , and i have been reporting them. I don't mind just getting FoFs naturally now after that. It wasn't every time. Also I'm not even trying to get the new cosmetics, I personally don't even care for them. I like the spice of FoFs is all.

  • @captaintibbz

Hackers are the worst. They ruin games. Someone should make a group in-game that hunts down hackers and sinks them by using pure skills and overwhelming numbers to overcome the hacks.

  • @goofythescot

Thanks for it. I might check them out cuz pirate justice must be served
