captaincy or rather crew ships... so we can set it up before the cap even gets online....

  • sorry if there is already a thread or i am unaware of something, i used to play alot and then have taken a long break, now just after 18 months i am back on the seas and captian ships are a thing, which is cool, but i was playing on a brig with my two friends and these are the only two that i ever sail with, and so my mate M is the captain and sets up the ship, we have some adventures but then captain M has to take a important phone call and times out of the game... now fair enough but as me and the other crewmate we not on the ship the brig reverted back to a bog standard ship... now is it possible that a captain can join again part way through? maybe i have missed something... but this got me thinking about the ships and if it was possible to have a clan/crew ship... like i would love to be able to jump on and set up the ship and then to have Capt M join me and t is already set up as his boat etc, but the fact that i have to wait for him to do that seems kinda booo. i thought that maybe it could be done that you could assign roles of first second and third mate to people permission to use and set up your boat with maybe like the captain had to join the boat within a certain time limit???
    like i said i have taken a break from the game and am just back and so there is loads that i have missed and need to catch up on

  • I usually play with open crews, and never had a problem/through about it. But, I think, it would be cool to have it. Like if the captain left due to inactivity (AFK), ship will remain captain ship status for following 15 mins. If captain won't return during or after that time, then ship will lost the captain ship status and captain won't be able to rejoin previous session.

  • Captaincy status disappears after your captain is gone. I had a post about this last week saying captaincy should be passed to a nominated crew mate by the captain either before they leave, or automatically by the game to allow other players to continue from the benefit, but it doesn’t add to the captained ships stats, this would keep it fair.

  • The problem I see with this is when the real captain logs back in now there are 2 of the same ship in game.

    It seems like a bug filled coding nightmare to me TBH.

  • @foambreaker it could be that if someone already has the ship then it is unavailable for anyone else in the crew or clan to take out. And if there was a timer on how long it could be sailed without the original captain, like if It could be set at 30min and if cap doesn’t join it reverts back to the standard ship. If the cap logs on then he can join his ship…
    Also could be made that you can select only 1 person for a sloop 2 for a brig or 3 for a gally to share the ship with, then only these people can start an adventure with the ship and then the cap can join…
    Was just a thought and an idea, I know some people love open crews but a lot of people only sail with people they know and trust. How many times have open crews resorted in someone joining, sinking the ship, dropping the loot off the ship and just trolling around… hard pass.
    Anyway was just a thought was all.
