  • A petition? Really? Sacre Bleu!

Rare is not against anti cheat, you have to understand that Rare LTD is not Activision or Valve or Riot games or whatever company that does massive online multiplayer games.

They are known for Donkey Kong, Golden Eye, P Diddy Kong Racing, Battletoads. Most of the success prior to Sea of Thieves came from the games in the 90s.

Sea of Thieves is their first attempt at something so unique, this is a brave new world for them. And I think they are doing a great job. They could have easily chosen to create some rubbish game like ''skull and bones'' and close their company couple years later.

Prior to Hourglass, I rarely ever saw any cheat accusations. After HG was launched a lot of players would resort to what players do in all games....gets into a fight...dies...CHEATER!!!!...oh wait maybe not...hmm...still...Suspicious!

I am not disputing the obvious hackers, or what people reported that in high MMR this problem is more serious.

But Rare is not the company who don't bother or care to resolve it. As mentioned this is their first ever multiplayer game on such scale. Lack of experience lead to releasing MM game mode without having an anti cheat. I bet you, give them a little bit more time and this will be sorted out to satisfactory standards.

  • The funny part to me is that I don't meet cheaters. Their MMR and W/L ratio are so high they're only a problem for the top 5-10%. And for the majority of the player base that don't even glance at hourglass this is a non-issue.

They are working on it, there was a wave of bans, the problem is actually on Microsoft's side, not Rare's. Players cheat, they get banned, and create another account in five minutes. I don't know exactly what Easy Anti-Cheat does (they're smartly quite mum about the specifics), so I'm not really sure if it will help...

  • @lordqulex Easy anti cheat is developed by Epic Games...I believe that's enough information to judge its competency :D Anyway, when something becomes a business, people will always find loopholes and ways to exploit it. I don't know what is the best anti cheat in the world, or what is the most protected game out there, but it happens there too, they patch it, they find another loophole...the cycle of online games.

  • Another post about anti-cheat… le sigh

Everyone’s assumption is always that SoT doesn’t have it installed, ofc it does, it just needed some adjustments once Season 8 hit.

Rare have said they DO NOT comment on their anti-cheat system because it gives the cheaters a heads up if they announce any changes to it etc.

They also said in their latest podcast that they were working in the background regarding it but that’s all they can say.

I’m kinda tired of having to write this constantly while forum members just brainlessly post the same thing 100+ people have done before checking the forums for duplicate posts. All it does is just clog up space for genuine feedback and suggestions.

You don't need a petition for something Rare have never been opposed to. Rare isn't against implementing an anti-cheat solution. They're just not going to discuss their solutions publicly for some very obvious reasons.

  • Another anti cheat request because of cheaters. As if they havnt seen the video about them working on it

  • This is also why you should record and report when you suspect a cheat. They can verify it and add it to the AI if needed...

  • Found my first cheater today, and on Xbox too. blatantly levitating through the air after my ship

  • @tesiccl since season 8 it's a real scourge he may be working on an anti cheat but there is still too much to do and the petition can allow the developers to finally see that this is not a minor problem and that we really need to worked on it

  • @zig-zag-ltu
I agree they expressed their frustrations and are aware of cheaters mentioned in one of their podcasts.
They just probably don't have the tools to deal with them.
A bit of incompetence one might say.
Also betting the company they recently hired did most of the heavy technical lifting when it comes to this season regarding QoL changes for audio while RARE took care of the world event tweaks... (Assuming.)

There is a 99% chance that Rare are very aware that the uptick in cheating is not a minor problem. As soon as prominent streamers started posting clips of cheaters using hacks you can be assured that Rare put this issue on top of their list.

This isn't a niche case where the developers are just too busy to notice. A petition isn't going to make them go any faster nor share any more details about their work on this.

  • @lordqulex Well apart from fly hacks and insta repair which have recently seen a downfall there is still a HUGE problem regarding closet cheaters.
Aka FoV cheats, ESP, Aimbot all of which are mere impossible outside of accusations to tell if a player is using any of them. (Also outside of said player sharing their PoV and program using cheats).
For example, theres still players that slip up and get banned for spilling they use hacks after accumulating over 2k hours on their mains.
2 Thousand hours in a game using cheats and not getting detected is pretty concerning if you ask me.

Yea, FoV, ESP, and Aimbots will all be client-side. They would be very difficult to detect server-side. And even if you report me, all you have to do is intentionally miss a shot every 30 seconds (the default "capture" option on XBox game bar) and your "evidence" is trashed...

Yes, sadly the cheats on now showing up on Xbox, just had an encounter with someone who made 100% cannon hits at long rage, first 3 to the mast, all hits then rest on the cannons, all hits. I've seen this one 2x in the last few weeks. For those that don't play Xbox, 100% hits at range is basically impossible.

The legacy of S8 is massive cheats.

  • You're probably coming across cheaters, you just don't realize it.
