Update Causing Ping Issues

  • I am hard-wired into my router, so it's not my connection. I monitor my send/receive data and shut down everything using ethernet on my computer that isn't required or SoT client. I have an expensive mesh system which allows me to throttle other devices and prioritize my gaming rig. I work from home and my company subsidizes my business class internet that I have for my home.

My ping does not drop below 300 since the latest update. To the extent of my knowledge, the problem isn't on my end. My ISP could be experiencing issues, or perhaps SoT NAC/NAE servers are having problems right now? But as an IT professional, when something changes you look at recent system changes to try and find the culprit. The latest update is the last change. This started the moment I downloaded the new update, which is suspect.

Has anyone else in NAC/NAE region experienced terrible ping since the last update? Or does this problem seem to be happening to only me?

  • I'm central/west and ping was 70 for me today. No issues that I've noticed.

Seems pretty stable to all NA data centers for me: https://www.azurespeed.com/Azure/Latency

SpeedTest.net says I got 220+ down and 12+ up, so I don't think it's my connection. My idle latency is near 200 and that's not great, but it just doesn't seem like there's anything I can do about it on my end.

But again, I've changed nothing but downloading the latest SoT update. I usually have a dozen chrome tabs open, discord open, etc... Right now I close everything and my ping is over 300. That's why I think there's an issue with the client but if no one else is seeing this than it's my problem to suss out.

What about Jitter and Packet Loss? Just because you're hardwired, doesn't mean you couldn't be getting a signal issue somewhere outside the home. That standard 200 ping is not good and is suspect. Did you test to a local server within, say 15 miles?

The speedtest app from the Windows Store is actually better than the website. It is faster and more accurate.

I get standard ping of like 10-15ms, 2ms Jitter, and 0 packet loss %.

Lol, thanks for the idea, I'm convinced it's not my end at all. I've been monitoring network usage all day. I average around 7mbps, while downloading SpeedTest I saw it go up to 1kbps, and when running speed test it went up to 1Mbps @ 88 ms ping. Not me, not my connection to Chicago servers. It's something in between. (Or the client...)

Ah well, hopefully they fix it soon so I get get in on the Double Rewards Week!

Oh now this is interesting... I just started having SpeedTest point to different areas. My latency to Chicago is 75 ms. My latency to a server 4 miles away is 300 ms. Looks like SoT is routing me through that one. Probably a coincidence, and again hopefully fixed by Monday.
