Various ideas to make the world feel more alive

  • I've been playing SOT for about 2 years now, and i've loved it, but the game dies quick. Even today with its oversaturation of content, you could maybe play for like 200 hours max before you experience basically everything. I've played for about 600. Here are some ideas i really want to see implemented:

    • More "Generic" clothing items. I speak for most of the community here in saying that we really don't need more "Walking lighthouse" cosmetic items. The Mercenary set is a good example of a good set. Contrast that with the Ghost set. What is the Ghost even supposed to be? A cyberpunk goth circus clown? The Ghost Set would look better on a vaguely pirate themed batman villain than it does in SoT. We need more regular jackets. Legends of the Sea added so many good generic, non-set-related cosmetic items and they were all fantastic. Why can't we get a new drop like that?

    • Jewelry. Come ON! We need some jewelry in this game! What kind of self-respecting pirate isn't blinged out? Rings, earrings, nose rings, necklaces, bracelets, thigh rings, circlets, lip piercings, even gold teeth! Would it really be that hard to model? I'm pretty sure blender just has a tool in it already that lets you create a ring instantly. Just use that, make it smaller, put a mermaid gem model in it, slap it on our pirate's fingers. I have no idea why rare is so stubborn about not adding jewelry, it seems like such a weird hill to die on. You guys can add a whole brand-new emporium costume every month but you can't throw together some rings and necklaces?

    • More enemies. Just a few ideas i saw online: A large passive hermit crab that spawns on islands with a big rock on its back. The idea being that you see a rock, approach it, and the crab comes out. Mimic crabs with chest-like shells that trick you with treasure before attacking. Cannon skeletons that target ships and have to be killed before they can attack. Sea serpents and lizard-like leviathans for each region with a different elemental power. Like fire for ashen, lightning for shores of plenty, ETC. Crocodiles that spawn in ponds in the wilds and shores of plenty. Wild boars and hogs that attack at will. The game went from having only skeletons and snakes to now having snakes, skeletons, and like two reskins of skeletons, and some underwater skeletons. They're fine, but they're boring.

    • More varied outposts and architecture. The wooden look of sea of thieves is charming, and i think canonically the sea of thieves was discovered only like 30 years before our players arrived, but it would still be so cool to see brick buildings. Imagine a brick and mortar port town outpost with maze-like architecture where you have to navigate where you turn in loot. That would be way cooler than the little wooden shacks we have now.

    • Some sort of summonable, themed forts. Similar to FOTD, but with less returns on generic fort islands. Like you sacrifice some minor loot to summon a fort. Like if you're pushing for PL, you can do a merchant shipment voyage, bury the loot on a fort, pour some sort of sacrificial blood or something on it, and after doing this with 5 loot pieces, you start a merchant themed fort. Skeletons in merchant alliance fatigues come from the ground, they fight more organized than the swashbuckling pirate skellies. And you fight like 10 waves and a boss and get like 15 mid-to-high tier merchant loot and some gems and tridents. Slap some commendations and outfits on there, and presto. All you'd really need to do is some extra animating and stuff for the unique skellies, then you can throw skelly lords in there as the boss and code in the activation and loot tables.

    • More OoS content. I don't even have a snarky or sarcastic remark for this one, OoS has like two whole voyages and that hasn't changed since like launch. Imagine a voyage where you have to use the memories of dead pirates like the twitter ARGs to hunt them down? Like "Last sighted at Kraken's fall" and you go there and find a skull, huffing the fumes and seeing visions of a pirate burying something at the sunken grove. You dig it up and it leads you eventually to a skeleton lord who you fight for a skull. You kill him, get the stronghold skull, and some other stuff washes up like the ashen event, plus guaranteed grade V for the whole voyage like LOTV.

    • New curses. I am on the fence about the reintroduction of the legend curse. I feel like athena was robbed of a really good level 30 reward in favor of another garish, ugly, glowstick costume not unlike what we would expect from the pirate emporium (Toilet flush sound effect to accentuate my sarcasm). So the good cosmetic was placed as a time-limited participation trophy, and the ugly one became the reward for maxing out the endgame faction. Other curses i would like to see are skeleton curses, ghost curses, and maybe some sort of electrical curse? I saw online a picture of a lady who got struck by lightning and something happened that it messed with her veins or something so the veins were highlighted through her skin with electrical patterns. It was so cool! Imagine that, but slightly glowy, add some glowing eyes, and make it a reward for some sort of storm commendation. Or like ocean-crawler-specific curses that give you a special curse for killing each type 300 times. Kill 300 clams? Get a toxic green clam curse with glowy green eyes and hard, shell-like skin patches. Kill 300 crabs? Get shiny, shell-like skin with ruby siren gemstone surfaces on the skin. Kill 300 eel-ectrics? Get a curse with glowy lightning veins and glowing eyes.

    • Unique island-specific food that can only be looted. Imagine going to a seafort and getting some sort of hardtack or something from it. Two bites, each bite restores 50% health, and it can ONLY be found in seaforts. Imagine what other foods there could be? Leeks or something with more bites but less HP restore, like 4 bites restoring 15-20% each?

    • Some sort of duel mode in crews. Imagine two crewmates voting to a duel with eachother and being able to pvp until they turn it off or one of them dies? Maybe it can be a captaincy-specific feature, like if two crewmates "Vote" on the bucket of training swords they enter duel mode.

    • Some sort of throwable curse balls. Imagine if you could only carry three at a time and there were entirely unique curses, but you can't throw them at a ship, you have to throw them at a group of players or skellies. Imagine throwing, say, a swordball for example. You throw it onto a galleon and whoever is caught in the radius is unable to use swords for a brief amount of time, say like 15 seconds? Imagine a blunderball, pistolball, or sniperball that does the same for other weapons. Or some sort of unique status effects like a floatyball that sends pirates slowly floating into the air to stay off the ladder, or a mirrorball that mirrors the enemy player's screen or something. Blindball, thunderball, or anything else really.

    • Rafts. Like rowboats, but with sails instead of oars. Managed just like the ship's sails, it is more noticeable and cannot be docked, but it is much faster than a rowboat, especially with the wind. Good for tuck plays, getting back to the fight faster, or hauling a large amount of loot away stealthily. Rowboats already do these things, so it won't be unbalanced, being basically just a thing that already exists with another thing that already exists on top of it.

    • Turning in tridents to the hunter's call. They're the only faction i could see getting any use out of them, and they're also starved to death for content. Turning in fish and gems gives the tiniest little smidgens of rep, it would be so cool to be able to turn in the much rarer tridents, which would otherwise just be eating up space.

    • More performance options. Removing deckwater (Water that washes onto the deck and just kinda sits there being animated and wasting gpu), FPS slider instead of fixed values, customizable draw distance for rendering at full detail, ETC. There is no functional or balance reason for the water puddles on the deck to exist, i would just like to remove them.

    • Hear me out; Stool varieties. The fans have been asking for stools for a very long time, as you guys know, but imagine admiral, sovereign, and sea d- Nah, i'm kidding, please do not take that ONE idea and ignore everything else please.
