Crew only chat and voice chat

  • What it says in the title. Give crews the option to set keybinds for crew only text/voice chat. Like it's insane that it's not a thing, and just gives closed crews even more of an advantage over open crews (plus xbox players)

  • I agree, it sucks having to juggle discord and voice chat when in reality middle of combat

  • crew only text/voice chat.

Do you mean...you want only your crew to see and hear your communications on an open world server?
    making your tucking plot better?

    Or idk...Start a Xbox Party :p

My advice is to do this. Bind PTT in game to a key then bind the same key to PTT on discord from there you make sure discord is muted when you press that PTT button so it only actives in game, on release its active in discord. I have this setup with my middle mouse button and I also use toggle mute for discord with the ` key for when I want to mute my mic but not activate the PTT key for the game.

In regards to the text chat I can see having /o be for open chat just before you type after opening the text box and /c for crew just like slash commands for different channels are used in MMO chat box's to keep things organised.

  • @wsurftvveeds you know there is a second option for the speaking trumpet exactly for this...on xbox press LT and you turn it around for whispering

  • @burnbacon dude no offense but why is like everything you post so passive aggressive, if not flat out aggressive for no reason lol. This is like the fourth or fifth post I’ve seen of you in just the past hour and all it is is stuff like this over the most simplest suggestions haha

  • @schwammlgott that's a non feature in most cases though. Like in the middle of combat you're not gonna go up to your crew and whisper that you need more people bucketing lol

  • @burnbacon starting an xbox party means you can't communicate in game... you should know this....

And for the record I neither play on xbox or open crew so personally have no need of this. Kindly sit down please :)

  • So take away my enjoyment of tucking on a ship and listening to the crew?

This is an open crew sandbox game. It adds to the immersion considering we have a Whispering trumpet. Adding this would just ruin a semi big part of the game and make the whisper feature uselss in most cases.

  • I would rather find some way to reward in-game voice chat.

I use discord voice chat all of the time unless we're talking to another crew, but it's a lot of fun to listen in on other crew chats, and that feature would kill it.

Of course, Discord always holds the inherent advantage of being able to post a lookout far away from the rest of the crew and still be heard. Or when we leave a tucker to spy on an enemy crew doing a fort or legend of the veil.

  • The option is already there. It's called Discord and LFG. A big part of SoT is the dynamic social interaction and being able to hear open crews on hot mics.

Unless you're on PC that is, then you can be in an xbox party chat and still hear and talk to people ingame.

  • Discord and party chat already kill immersion so it would be only fair for random crews to also get some privacy.

Unless someone states specifically they are asking about the console version of the game I am under the assumption they are on the PC version and its still general advice.

Discord is getting implemented more natively to the console once the test build is out of the xbox insider phase, there is a guide on how to use it here: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-set-up-discord-voice-xbox/

From there its just seeing what ways people can setup binds for both ingame and discord voice with the control options they have at the time.

I have this link also pinned in the LFG channel in the community discord for easy referral back to when its needed.

What I do, because I have a mute switch on my headset, is to keep discord unmuted and Sea of Thieves set to PTT.

That way it's just one extra step to go from talking in discord to talking in discord + in game.
It causes an echo, but we don't need to talk to other crews often so it's a non issue.
Plus the annoying echo helps us identify when someone accidentally left their in-game mic open.

Thats a good way to handle it as well, SoT has the option to display when a mic is active so that helps in that regard. I generally have my in game crew voice muted since I use that icon to tell me when a crew member is talking with voice in game.

Forgot to mention that in the last replies I made.
