Shipwrights able to summon / Spawn your ship instead of just mermaids

  • There is one reason and one only why i think this would be awesome.

If i have a rowboat on my ship ill put the loot inside it if things are going badly and when i sink, sneak away and row to the nearest outpost.
i think it would be cool if once that loot has been turned in, you could pay the shipwright a fee (higher than the restore ship option) and have it spawned on the dock. I find this whole process way more immersive than just jumping into the water and mermaiding it to a new ship then sailing back for the rowboat.

It however cant spawn if there is a ship relatively nearby. So you couldnt use it as a way to ambush approaching ships.
The distance that restricts spawning could be whatever makes sense, maybe an island away or further depending on what makes the most sense.

  • @shadow20642 from an immersive point, yes, would be nice...but even with your idea about the distance to other ships, this wouldn't be a good idea...I see a hidden fast travel in this...for example:
4 players, 1 sitting on galleons grave, rest is on golden sands...the 1 player sees a ship coming towards the outpost...golden sands people sink the ship, 1 stays, the other 2 mermaid to the new ship to ambush the incoming ship...after finished, they all go back to golden sands with a new ship...

    This is an absolutely nogo

Worst case scenario just make it unable to spawn a ship if you can see another on the horizon and problem solved.

You can see ships pretty far away...so nothing solved, this would just make it impossible to spawn a new ship in most cases...so just wasted recourses for a useless feature

  • @schwammlgott It’s actually quite common to see no ships at all when at an outpost so afraid you are wrong there.

FYI the whole fast travel issue you mentioned is very unlikely.
Nobody is gonna sit at an outpost for hours on end, what would be the point?

    Your point is pretty moot.
But I appreciate the response all the same.

  • @shadow20642 explain "see a ship"...it can be at the big rock next to the island you are at...but you don’t see it...
If you want distance as an indicator, then this is also a way to see if ships are hidden nearby...

It's not that common, I park mostly out of sight, so behind islands for example...just because they don’t see me, doesn't mean I'm not there

  • @schwammlgott I just don’t believe there is always a ship nearby at every outpost you are at. Sure there may be a few times but EVERY time? I don’t think so. Not with the amount of ships sailing.

    Ain’t buying it sorry.
It’s ok to dislike my idea you know, just say you don’t like it, it’s totally fine haha

But yeah the whole fast travel island camping I don’t think will happen often and if it did then the above would fix it but again don’t think it’s necessary.

But there’s no way that there’s a ship within a visible distance every time, it’s just not true. Often sure but every time? It’s just statistically unlikely.

I honestly think it would be fine.
People said buying resources at outposts would break the game and that turned out fine. I think the same applies to this.

If you don’t agree then let’s agree to disagree. There isn’t much more to be said about it I’m afraid.

    Good day

  • @shadow20642 it is...go to galleons grave and all the way up, you see so far from there

Edit: I didn't say "every time", but it's pretty often

  • @schwammlgott It honestly depends. It’s pretty random.

  • Seems like a lot of work for a mechanic that would be rarely used and potentially exploitable.

Other than the point about fast travel already mentioned, what is there to stop me from starting a session, buying a storage crate, emptying the ship of supplies, scuttle, recall the ship, rinse and repeat until I have 1000's of supplies?

If the response to that is if you recall the ship then it has very limited supplies, then I can't imagine many people would do it. Or if you set a limit on how many times you could recall; once an hour or something then it is just adding layers of work on top of the 'can't recall if a ship is nearby' for a minor convenience that would rarely be used.

    Ahoy @shadow20642!

Don't really like that idea, let me explain why.

A pirate's ship is his/her second love (first one being the sea and you might make a case that booty is the second.. but for this example lets just stick to second). You just shouldn't leave your ship behind and if you do, you need to go back to it. Having the option to just teleport your ship to whatever outpost you are at seems wrong. Plus what happens to your old ship? Is it really still your ship? or is it a clone?

Then there's the issue of trust, you can only ever trust yourself. Image you're out sailing about with a ruthless crew and one finds his/her way to an outpost. This would allow him teleport the ship back to the outpost at any given time, dropping all the loot and pirates that remain on the ship in the water. Sounds like an accident waiting to happen!

Another topic on disagreement comes with your mention of immersion. So you're saying that hitching a ride with a mermaid to the god gifted ship is less immersive than fabricating a ship from thin air? If you're looking for immersion, shouldn't you just be rowing back to your ship?

Finally once you manage to sink your ship or others helped you with it, the gods grace you a new ship. The location they pick for this ship however is deliberately a fair distance away from the place of trauma where you lost your ship and also away from all those pesky vendors that can sell you instant stock. This way you might not be enticed to immediately go back and end up in a similar situation.

Those are thoughts on the whole deal. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I just think it's not a very good. (Although having something like that would open the doors for changing the size of your vessel without having to leave the game).

You could keep recalling your ship and keep losing it up for infinite resources, I like your thinking haha
however it would cost you a fortune in gold, much more expensive than just buying them normally.

However that very trick works in the sea of the damned and shores of gold!
