I think it's an interesting idea, however it would make reporting people for toxic behavior and breaching the rules very difficult, unless the names were unique to each pirate.

I would probably name mine Alleriah Stardust. She's a brave pirate, whimsical and kind.

@pabio-escobar story time: I wanted to change my gammertag to my captains name and I found out I could do it for free, but because I didn't know a good name at the time I decided I would change it to something random and then come back to it.... well... i changed it to this, AvadoBeard for laughs, then when I came back to it I found out I had one free change and needed to now pay 10 bucks... that was not blatantly obvious to me and I felt I had been deafeated... now anytime I pass by a ship on the sea they look to me and think of green on toast... they think I'm DELICIOUS NOT DEADLY!!!! I'm a broken man... and now so is my social status...

I would 100% be for the ability to have your own in-game Pirate nickname! I think it could work best if perhaps you had your pirate nickname large and bold, then underneath, about half that font size, you would still have your gamer tag at all times, then obviously spaced below that, your title. It might look cluttered? But i think it would add enough to the roleplay/freedom of expression to be worth it.

Personally, my current working name for my pirate is 'WeaselWeiss', or just; "The Weasel". I was told once by a friend my pirate comes across as very weaselly and mischievous, and it stuck hard for me, as my roleplay/ethos tends to be "if it benefits me, then i'll do it". I probably would change it if we got ingame nickname choice, but as of now, that's what's in the air.

Question: If implemented, would this create a new meta for tuckers, where they name their pirate things like "." or "l" for the smallest possible name to be visible?

Nope, change your gamer tag to reflect your pirate alias like the real Pirate OGs :P

I knew I only had one name change, and it told me that the identifying numbers would disappear in some games. It was a surprise to join Sea of Thieves and see that the numbers were there... So I spent the $10 and got the name I have now 😅

My issue is that my gamer tag is old and apart from the I being an L isn’t far off OG, wouldn’t really want to change it for the sake of SoT and Pablo Escobar, even though he was ruthless, wasn’t well known for his piracy shenanigans.

I like this idea. If the gamertag swap doesn’t work, what about swapping titles for your captain’s name? But they’ll want us to use the game’s preset titles :(

I think ESO allows for your character’s name, gamertag, and title. Not at home to see how it’s laid above the character’s head.

I’m supportive for somehow adding the pirate’s name!

There would be no reason to force preset names on people. They haven’t for the ships.
