Update the Reaper's Mark flag

  • So, as it stands, the Reaper's mark flag is a liiiiittle bit pointless, thanks to the Reaper's Emissary pretty much filling the exact same niche, but better. At this point, it's pretty much just a beacon for server hoppers to get their buddies on the same server on another ship. So, how do we fix this?

    Simple!

Put a multiplier on any loot sold while the flag is up. I'm thinking 1.3x- Not too crazy, but nothing to scoff at, either, since it stacks with other multipliers, like Gold rush, Gold and Glory, and Emissary flags. Sounds pretty good, right?

    Weeeeellllll, there is a catch.

See, that flag? It's cursed. It's cursed, and the dark mark of that flag will stick with you. If you raise The Reaper's Mark, you can't lower it until you sink.

This creates a risk/reward system where you can get even more money for your efforts, but it also puts you on everyone's radar- Like a reaper emissary, except for every company. Or no company at all, if you want. The point is, this functionality would make the OG pvp flag viable to use again for reasons other than just wanting to be old school.

Side-note, I know people are gonna come in and say "Oh another thing for alliance servers to abuse"- So what? Them having gold doesn't take any from you. Others can use it too. "Alliance servers will use this" is not criticism.

make it forbidden to alliances and make them only per person in a crew
    THAT WAY, it's game on

  • I like this Idea

  • It's a solid idea at its core, it just needs some workshopping.

    Problem:
What would stop me from amassing a ton of loot and THEN raising the flag to get the bonus?

    Possible Solutions:
-1) Have the flag be something that you elect to raise BEFORE you set sail.
-2) Have only loot that was collected while the flag is up get a bonus (sort of like voyage completions only count if you've had the flag up the whole time)
-3) Have the flag be almost like an Emissary, but time based instead instead of loot based. Every in-game day that you have it raised, you get another .1x (or whatever) multiplier added and it caps out at whatever you set the cap to.

I'm sure there's some other creative solutions, but those are the quick ones that come to mind.

Also, I would vote that if you have this flag raised, you cannot participate in the alliance system. Solves not only the alliance server problem, but also makes this flag more of a PvP beacon than the Reaper Emissary is today.

  • I like this. Especially with the additional suggestions.

I'd add: shouldn't there be a plus for whoever sinks the ship carrying this flag too? The flag itself should be valuable like an emissary flag to encourage attacks, although perhaps instead of depending on the treasure collected, it could be based on the time the flag has been up.

  • The more pvp i can get the beter so im down have my vote

  • Maybe you dont want to raise the Emissary Flag? Maybe you just want to signal your looking for trouble and have no Flag to care about losing?

    Reapers Mark.

  • so you want a reaper flag that doesnt break off and cant be sold but also gives you a boost? while i agree the flag is kinda of pointless at this point... yes its mostly used for people to see if they have multiple ships on a server... but thats the old school method. now people just use the emissary tables. vote up "how many boats?" vote down.... ok how many do we have on the server? 2? ok try again till we get a match of 5.

I will hop into open crews sometimes throw up the reaper flag and leave just because it might get them attacked before they realize but you basically want the flag to give a bonus without needing to level the actual emissary and it would be a bonus to anywhere?

I imagine the reaper flag still exists for 2 reasons..... 1 it would require effort to remove it for no reason. 2. there are commendations tied to having the reaper flag up when fighting other ships they would have to rework these achievements to maybe function with a reaper emissary flag or just make them legacy and un-obtainable. Either way its asking them to do work for no reason the flag exists. hurts no one. looks cool...

  • I much prefer the simplicity of it now. You can raise it to get someone's attention, and they might be less likely to attack and sink you since there would be no emmisary flag for them to take away.
