Hey, Pirates! I was wondering if anyone can confirm if the sail angle technique is still relevant for the sloop. I got into SoT late, and so a lot of guides I used to watch were older from when the game was brand new. I've been for quite some time following the rule that the sloop and only the sloop needs sails angled fully forward if you can't catch a full billow with the wind. Is this still true? I've been doing it for a while and it really doesn't seem like it's working. If anyone can confirm, I'd appreciate it so I can stop second guessing if I need to catch as much wind as possible without full billow or just set them straight. Thanks everyone.
Sloop Sail Angle
Based on personal experience "dummy sails" work on both the sloop and brig (I almost never run gally). I think it changed at some point during the last 10 or so months but the brig definitely seems to outpace the sloop in all directions now. I need to work on capturing my own footage of this but in the meantime I found this: https://youtu.be/h15ugvpa9C8
I still think brig players have gotten a little better and sloopers worse I still have yet to be chased down by a brig set to stupid.
Setting sails for stupid is the best way on all ships pointing into the wind.
@pithyrumble what area of the map do you mostly play in? My current theory is that the waves have a big impact on shipspeed.
They do. Not to mention the SE flowing current. A brig can catch up super fast if you make a mistake or get out of stupid alignment.
@xzodeak Waves absolutely affect ship speed in some way, maby not over all speed, but when sailing north west, you will constantly get knocked off course which affects how fast you get where you are going.
