    Are DDOSings still a thing?

    During my long game of contributing to Lost Sands, a lone sloop pirate came after me and I successfully sunk them twice. During the battle he let his toxic taunting be known after he killed me once (I still got him back with a quick bucketing psyche). After two exchanges I turned over towards the Reaper's Hideout with random loot and prepared to dock when suddenly I had gotten a Lavenderbeard out of nowhere. Five minutes later my connection to the game was restored I was able to get back on...onto a sinking sloop and the other pirate rowing his rowboat with a powder keg on it towards me. I trumpeted/told to him what happened but he went ahead and bluderbussed me as if he knew what happened...

    They shouldn't be a thing. But if you did see anything odd you should always report this to Player Support using the link below for them to investigate.

    Are you a Steam player by any chance? You may have been affected by the weekly Steam downtime which would have given you the brief outage and Lavenderbeard error.

    @musicmee Yes...and unfortunately looking between the two most recent names I can't remember which of them was the one that battled me/potentially DDOSed me. I might make the mistake in giving the wrong person as they might had been on the ferry when I logged off for the evening.

    In order to DDOS you they'd need to have your IP address, which they can't get from the game by itself since there are no direct connections between clients as far as I know. The XBox party system has, or used to have (not sure if fixed), this problem so unless you joined a party with them they shouldn't have had this information.

    "If you play games on the Xbox network, you might experience a denial of service (DoS) or distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack initiated by another player. Such attacks may render your Xbox console or your computer temporarily unable to connect to the Xbox network or the internet.
    If you think you've experienced a DoS or DDoS attack, we recommend resetting your router and contacting your internet service provider. If you know who attacked you, consider reporting them to Xbox to avoid them in the future"

    This is also why you avoid the party invite spam that follows in the wake of many toxic crews.

    Pretty easy to DDOS a server with a 3rd party software, and if you join an Xbox party chat they can DDOS you personally. That's what happened to the people who camped Summit1g.

    Pretty disgusting that people think it's okay to leak personal information and DDOS someone just because they streamsniped someone. If you're going to punish someone for streamsniping then just ban them for a couple days, they don't deserve to have their personal information leaked for something that happened in a videogame. But some people are idiotic and believe that a DDOS and personal information leak is an equivalent punishment for streamsniping. So stupid.
