so doing research sea of thieves is rated teen. rated teen includes simulated gambling which means if they add card games, dice, etc the rating would not change so they could add it
Sea of Thieves Rating
@madfrito99 Some sort of casino where you can gamble your gold away could be nice. They could put it in the Arena in adventure mode or in a separate lobby altogether.
Since you approached it this way I'm with Ian Malcolm on a topic like this
I don't wanna see the devs so preoccupied with whether or not they can, that they don't stop to think if they should
To me it's not about the rating it's about does it serve a shared family friendly environment? I personally think the gambles should remain with the environment. Risk/reward activity revolving around treasure/commendations.
@madfrito99 That rating covers drugs as well, but I doubt you will ever see use of pipes or tobacco smoking in this game
@wolfmanbush its definitely has to be a separate thing for it to work…like a pirate tavern where you play against others. there could be commedationd and cosmetics behind it too.
pvp should not be involved with this at all. its more of a community thing
Man you dug deep to ask for a gambling feature...
Either way, no point in distracting players from actually getting loot so there is some kind of PvPvE happening in the world. We are still lacking a 6th ship slot, let's not take away more ships from the servers so you can boot it up and not sail and get loot.
While i agree with the sentiments that this sort of feature would be distracting, and would take away from "playing the game", i honestly really would love to see Card and dice games come to the Sea of Thieves, it would be really nice to be able to pass some time on the ships, or meet up with rival crews in the tavern for some games. Something to do while sailing would be welcome, and i think a few card games would be good for that. Even if it was something like playing solitaire while sailing alone, or liars dice with a full crew, it would be oddly entertaining.
I don't know if anyone else has played it, but a little spacey Star Trek style game called Pulsar: Lost Colony has Liars Dice available in the ships, and me and some friends would always play a game between journeys, it was small, but it was very fun! So if they found a way to make it work and integrate with the Sea of Thieves, card and dice games would be welcome in my personal opinion.@nex-stargaze said in Sea of Thieves Rating:

This is my mindset. Adding it would detract from others' ability to have fun (and that doesn't just go for those favoring PvP; it would also affect those wanting to sail and make alliances).
I suppose you could earn gold through gambling and winning against others, but that sounds, well, less fun - especially since any opposing gamblers will likely kill you and sink your ship after losing...
- not physical gold
- no pvp in the tavern
- ships are not in play
think of red dead redemption where its open world anyone can attack but once you sit down at the table there is no pvp
If they ever wind up doing a pre-game lobby that allows players to interact, this would make sense.
I can't see any reason they'd need to add it to something you'd spend time doing on the seas. ..then again, we have more commendations surrounding sitting down than we do for stealing loot...so I wouldn't be shocked if they added it.

So....what would be the point? You're asking them to make a separate game mode just for gambling? If you want to play gambling games with your friends, there's already plenty to choose from.
Also...from here https://pegi.info/what-do-the-labels-mean
"Gambling - Some older titles can be found with PEGI 12 or PEGI 16, but PEGI changed the criteria for this classification in 2020, which made that new games with this sort of content are always PEGI 18."
So although the game was released pre-2020, the gambling aspect would be post-2020. I'm fairly sure that if gambling content is added, the PEGI rating would change. Especially if you want it to be a separate game mode.

You have a nasty habit of making these opinions where the bottom line for you is "I PvP when I WANT to and everyone has to respect that and vice versa".
The worst part is because of my preconceived thoughts about how you think things through, I know you're trying to add a new avenue of "fun, non-PvP, piratical activities" to this game in an attempt to have more options over playing the game and dealing with some rowdy players ambushing your little solo sloop in combat.
You've got a slight bit of a reputation to work on as well as some moments at the drawing board to really think about additions to the game that appeal to the FULL PvPvE open world nature of the game.
I think I may have a workaround for the table games thing.
We have the dice emotes, so why not add some more (for cards, like draw 1 card, or 3, etc.) instead of a full on card game system.
This would let people find ways to play their favourite card games AND invent some of their own.
They probably wouldn't stop the whole process of PvPvE either and would just be a fun alternative to playing music and smacking the ships deck with my shovel when sailing.
@nex-stargaze this is what you dont understand:
nothing in this game forces you to go and sink people and steal loot or kill people.
some of you seem to think that because the titke of the game is “sea of thieves”, or its a “pirate game”, or its a “sandbox” that you have to act a certain way
contrary no action is forced in this game thus you can make all of your own decisions on how you act. its a game and you make it what you want. people can play anyway they want because the game allows it!
and you know what? its ok if not everything single thing evolves around pvp or pve. like arena didnt involve pve and you didnt see people crying that there needed to be pve in it because its a pvevp game

If it detracts from the main game it isn't ok at all.

Arena DID involve PvE... especially in Arena 1.0. And people did complain about it and we got Arena 2.0 with effectively reduced PvE.
I'd argue Arena 1.0 was better, but neither iteration was properly done IMO.
Regardless, both Arena 1.0 and 2.0 did involve PvE and were intended to be a condensed version of Adventure mode...which is PvPvE.
@madfrito99 It's not part of the game yet, and till now the whole idea seems nothing but a distraction from pirate action.
I dont have problem with gambling in SoT, but it cant be in Adventure mode.
Already as it is the seas feels empty with 5 ships so i dont want players to get distracted, they should venture out there and interact with other crews. That being said, Arena lobby like that can only be reached from the main menu is very welcome. There you can feel free to lose your pants, drown in bebt and get in troubles with the sea Mafia.
We accept organs as well 😎@sweetsandman when i played arena before it was shut down i saw 0 pve stuff. dig up a chest and turn it in/fight other boats
@madfrito99 said in Sea of Thieves Rating:
dig up a chest and turn it in
That's the PvE bit.
In Arena 1.0, there were more chests and maps. But, the hardcore PvPers hated it, so they knocked it back to a single chest with a beacon.

I killed a few sharks. 😉
@sweetsandman hows is a chest an enemy? your going against other players for the chest so its still pvp
@sweetsandman also your making my point the hardcore pvpers wanted 0 pve aspects…and pretty much got it
however when we ask for something that doesnt involve pvp we are told we arent playing the way the game was designed…we are crazy…we are playing the wrong game…well it works both ways and the same could be said about hardcore pvpers
@madfrito99
Try fishing.
It's like a gamble- you get gold out of it (but you don't know how much), it takes forever, it's totally rigged, and leeches are involved.
Perhaps a fishing competition with a friend to earn the most value in fish within a timeframe.@madfrito99
If I'm not wrong, GTA is rated 16 (?) and still it's casino games are prohibited in some countries (mine included) it's absurd to have a game with a feature only for certain countries whose laws allows it...
Because casino games in an online game isn't much an age/PEGI thing but a country legislation thing
and I doubt Rare wants to have that kind of issue with their game.@madfrito99 said in Sea of Thieves Rating:

How many times are you going to beat a dead horse. You know this thread will be locked if you make it about PvP/PvE.
@galactic-geek i wasnt trying to but his comment screams hypocrisy and its not ok. you guys werent attacked for wanting pve out of arena…but yet we are constantly attacked for asking for the reverse.
im sorry it just makes no sense and im just trying to understand why its ok one way but not the other
@madfrito99 said in Sea of Thieves Rating:

It's PvE in the same way that a generic single chapter Gold Hoarder voyage is...ya know, the one where it sends you from Dagger tooth over to Sunken Grove, you dig up a chest and the voyage is complete...
Sure there's no skeletons in Arena, but aside from that, it's you versus the waves, wind, knowledge of an island and most efficient paths, etc.
It's the most simplistic version of PvE you can think of, but it is PvE.
Now, look back at Arena 1.0 and it was considerably more PvE heavy...it's a shame they went away from that.

I support this idea in the same way I support skeleton thrones and "sitting" in general...it's got its place in the community, and there's no reason (potential rating limitations aside) why it couldn't serve a small purpose in adventure mode. It's not for me, but clearly the community wants it. This isn't the first time it's been requested that's for sure.
