quests vs map bundles

  • I was just reading below about the new athena quests and how crews are cancelling the quest or quitting to a new server and it causes the whole event to disappear, in comparison if someone has a quest to dig an athena chest up they can do the same thing as no other crew can dig the chest up.

This had me thinking, why do the same principles of the map bundles not apply to quests. i dont see why i cant steal a quest from someones table and just go do it myself. To take it a step further, what if each organization have only those 3 quests at any time. creating a competition to complete the same quests this would force alot more ships to be at the same places on the map like world events do, making the world feel less empty.

  • That would be very unfun.

  • @Blappo-Spawn It would simply create more server hopping as crews struggle to find a voyage that they want, and can, do.

  • Voyages belong to the crew and I am fine with that. If you want to steal what a Voyage has on offer you need to get creative and make sure your quarry has acquired the loot you seek otherwise it is forefit.

Maps are ways for players to elect to generate more content for the server overall and thus can allow for some new mechanics like stealing of those Maps. Granted, I would argue that it might be good to add Bottle Quests to the mix of Map Bundles for some extra variety in those (and ensuring more Ships have some available all the time) and allow for Crews to unload things that they don't want to keep when they find them (adding more variety to the Quest Board).

This game seeks to find a bit of a balance. That means not everything should be forcing players together from the offset. Some things, sure, but other things need to sort of be tucked away to give a path to try and have less conflict as well. I think that how things are handled presently does a fairly good job at this. Other players and their tactics can always serve as a threat, it is up to you and your own crew to decide how you want to manage those risks and you have numerous tools available to do that.

This could be a fine view, except the servers are dead all the time. if we had 10 ships sailing around maybe but its maybe 4 ships on a server, but often only 2. and if you want the spice you have to spend 10 minutes to hop servers because there is no faster merge option.

  • @blappo-spawn this might be a region thing. I'm on US East and there are almost always 5 Ships on the server and I have very little issue locating them.

  • @RedEyeSith then its not regional.

  • @blappo-spawn not sure what to tell ya then, cause this is never a problem for me.
