brigged over and over and over.....

  • When I open crew I get brigged a lot. Sometimes instant as soon as i load in, they usually say something like they don't trust strangers. If I'm not brigged instantly though this one never fails: Raise the sails then the anchor. If the boat is parked at an island sails down anchor down nose in just raise the sails then raise the anchor straighten the wheel etc. surefire way to get brigged every time.

Bonus points if you manage to point the boat in the right direction to go to the next island on the quest.

  • I have done a few open crews and some experiences were better than others but I don't think I was ever brigged. Maybe bad luck? :(

  • @lackbarwastaken

    Been there done that!

I have done the same with raising the sails and anchor, people just lose it. You can't help stupid.

  • When I open crew

Then use looking for group and find better players.

  • @friedwilly its amazing how they freak out and grab the anchor! They have been conditioned to thinking that if the anchor is up then the boat must move forward.

@burnbacon Yea i like to open crew though and play with inexperienced players. This isn't an earnest problem I have.

  • Open Crews are basically a test of insanity. If you participate and you are not insane you will definitely go insane.

  • that very thing happens to me probably 20% of the time i open crew. no exaggeration.
without exception i spend about 1 minute with somebody actively pulling on the anchor yelling over the mic, totally resistant to the notion of prepping the boat. ive even had them do this when there is an enemy ship 30 seconds away from us.

i normally stick around just to witness the failure.

  • I've experienced my share of malicious brig usage and a whole lot of open crew shenanigans but it wasn't that often in my experience.

It's a useful example of why the option to kick (that is often suggested) would create more problems than solutions as the majority vote isn't often an indicator of a just decision.

Two main open crews that are gonna brig you quickly or maliciously are kids goofing around and aren't getting anything done other than puking and giggling and brigs where 2 people are friends and open the crew to use the power of majority as a power play rather than a helpful tool. You're not missing out on much with either. The first group isn't going to get anything done and the second is going to stack and they will lose their loot a majority of the time or just dump it while playing the ego games.

  • Try Looking For Group. You can find some solid (and not solid haha) people in there.

  • I take it the looking for group is not an in game feature. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

  • Imagine having your crew open and briging everyone that joins because you don’t trust strangers o_0

Xbox console-companion on PC, I assume Xbox has something similar.

You should tell that to @wdw1011971 , not me.

Hopefully, he'll figure it out now.

  • Open crew in my eyes are the worst... some Russian kid screaming with his little baby sister screaming in the background... And just so much toxic people overall, I have my fair share of experiences -_-
What I would recommend, just set sail on a sloop and maybe find some other players, who seem like good ppl and add them and maybe you have a crew now. That's how I met my best friends, just solo scooping, then met this enemy sloop with a duo and we were fighting for like 10 minutes and then we both ran out of cannons and just called it a day, and we met up xD Those moments are the best in this game and I recommend you try it out ;)
(p.s. I know daily play and talk with those guys, gonna meet them in real life too... this game can bring the best out of everyone!)

  • @lem0n-curry So its not an in game feature you have to use the xbox looking for group thx. I have had bad luck with that so I just give up.

People seem to find nice people to sail with on Discords or on this forum.

  • I dont know if ironic, or sad is the better word. Not sure if its just kids who dont know how to set a game to private. I would sometimes jump around to open crews just to see what people were doing and get brigged instantly. or had some little kid who is trash at driving brig me for doing anything on the boat because "im the captain"

i try to be a pretty chill person but being put in the brig without word or reason that turns me into a troll. you want me to leave because youre waiting on a friend or w/e? then ask......... brig me? ill just chill there for hours making sure i dont get booted while watching netflix on one of my 4 monitors.

Rare never understood online gaming. They had this concept of putting someone in the brig to deal with bad actors and also for RP purposes. Closed crew didnt even exist at launch because being on a boat with friends and not wanting random strangers hopping into your crew if someone got AFKed out because they had to use the rest room was something Rare didnt even consider.. Heck the AFK timer in this game doesnt account for people having to go a #2 without getting kicked off and losing all your progress. Its been 4 years...... we still dont have an option to forcefully remove someone from our crew. The only think that makes sense is Rare might see that as a negative play experience.... Vs what being locked in the brig for 4 hours? It is very thematic to make a player "Walk the plank" I have been with people where we had a bad actor on the ship, put them in the brig and they were legit there for hours. Rare basically lets the troll win in those situations because you might as well just leave the game and remake even if youre halfway through a voyage.

Heck I went onto an open crew where they were trying to do an athena voyage. I had already 100% my athena at the time but I was feeling generous ill help these scrubs out. They asked if I had a headset because they were on a very important voyage. I told them no, (I had a headache and put my sound to speakers so I didnt have to wear my headset and wasnt in the mood to put it on) they put me in the brig... Ok enjoy being 1 man down on your voyage. I had nothing to gain from helping them but I can let them try to complete it being 1 man short if thats how they are going to act. With more experience under my belt than the whole crew combined me lying about not having a headset was a deal breaker... found it hilarious that after an hour they finally left and abandoned the voyage because they didnt want to leave an athena voyage down for someone as unworthy as myself..... lol this is the kind of mentality the brig instills in people. The few instances I have been let out of the brig because stuff starts to go down I then just keg the boat because hey you brigged me for no reason so payback
