Missing Pirate After Account Xbox Account Linking

    I have been playing SoT through Steam now for nearly 2 years. While I have an Xbox account, I have never been asked to sign into Sea of Thieves through my Xbox Account.

    My Steam name is Malthread and my Xbox name is Malthread9942. I have always been playing as simply Malthread, and my friends have always seen me as that as well. Now, whenever I open SoT through Steam, it asks me to sign into Xbox Live, where it hasn't before.

    When I do that, Malthread9942 is being displayed as who I am playing as, not Malthread. The new username isn't as big of a problem as the fact that I seemingly no longer have access to the same pirate that was under the Malthread name. Unlinking my Steam account from the Xbox account doesn't help, signing back out of the game also doesn't help. All I'm able to see is the generic pirate that got created after the game made me sign into an Xbox account.

    I have spent over 400+ hours on him and hundreds of dollars. My Xbox and Steam accounts are linked and I have no idea what to do. Is there any possibility of recovering the pirate that shared the same name as my Steam account? Thank you in advance!

    @malthread9942 Ahoy matey!

    ALL players when launching Sea of Thieves on Steam gets asked to link an Xbox Gamertag - It may have been so long again that you forgot doing this? Or were too excited to get going and missed it ;D

    From what I can see there is a Gamertag Malthread AND Malthread9942, you will need to make sure you sign in with the right Xbox/Microsoft Account to see the right pirate.

    I would try double check your login details and try again...

    Support may be able to help you but they may direct you to Microsoft support as the key to solving this will be working out which Microsoft/Xbox account you used to first sign in.

    This happened to me awhile back to and I lost my old account with hundreds of hours in it. Ive just recently gotten back into the game and I hope to find my old account again
