So, I was wondering why the Brig was called a brigantine. A brigantine was a ship with a back gaff sail on the main mast. A brig was a ship with square rigging on both masts. It's a weird detail that always kinda bugged me.
Brigantine is just a Brig
@jum9260 this game did cause me to look up some sailing and ship knowledge. Got to thank it for that really because the age of piracy is quite an interesting time in history to read up on. I think they used the names though to keep it simple for people. More people have probably heard of a Sloop than Cog. You never know in the future they may add more ship variations and change the names of the ships to the more accurate counter parts.
@jum9260 while I agree that some aspects of the game are unrealistic, that’s part of what makes it playable instead of a sim

For Sure!
It's what really makes me want more stuff brought in from the golden age, it's really interesting and would truly make it feel like a huge pirate sandbox.

Of course, I wouldn't want it behaving like a sim.
But I think the ships overall design could use more detail, even if they're purely cosmetic and don't affect gameplay.

@jum9260 it would definitely be interesting to add a optional decore feature that is more lifelike
I think it would be awesome to be able to toggle different parts that (gameplay wise) are purely cosmetic.

Freaking love this broken game lol. 💖🤩💖
Eh, I wouldn't say broken. Maybe confused? I don't think Rare knows what to do with it. I'd say everything about this game is mediocre at best, but the combination makes it have a certain appeal.

As someone who would like to see schooners added, I support this salt.
I would be excited about them adding a wooden plank as a boat at this point.
Brig is just short for brigantine, it came to mean specifically a square rigged brigantine as time went on into the 18th and 19th centuries. I believe they went with brigantine over brig to avoid confusion, because they went with the American use of brig for the jail on the ships. Which, interestingly enough, came about from the American Navy's use of brigs as prison ships.

Aye, but it simply wears down my soul in the most unholy and foul way to know that one of the ships types is labeled wrong. Plus, most people just call it a brig anyway.
@wagstr I actually find details like that annoying. We´re aware it´s just a video game and it isn´t going to be 100% perfect but it stills bothers us, like the fact that the anchor on the sloop and galleon aren´t centered on the ship.
@sleepysnowwolf some more fuel for the OCD then. When you drop the anchor the ship stops when the capstan goes all the way down i.e anchor hit floor. The ship won't start moving again until it's all the way up i.e back at the ship. The ship should actually start to move by just raising the anchor slightly and holding it there. Yes let the hate flow through you.
@sleepysnowwolf I was being sarcastic with the smokeless fuel. You can also hear music in the tavern but can't see a band and it doesn't sound like its coming from upstairs. There's so many nit-picks haha. The compasses also don't function correctly. They point to true north when they actually should point to magnetic north hehe.

The compass points forwards, it's the disc that somehow directs the N to whatever North 😋.

What, like the absence of a wake and fishing lines that act the same on a moving ship as a stationary one? Sailing forward in a direct head wind? What about the sword lunge and being fired out of cannons etc.. Give me a break lol.. It's a goofy pirate adventure!
Some of those things being added could help the game be more straightforward.
There's been plenty of times that I've been fishing and an object makes the line snap once the fish gets close. It's beyond frustrating, especially when I'm fishing off a dock
I've seen many new players try to work the sails how'd you'd think they would work, and they don't believe me when I say it's better to put the sails in the wind.
What I'm trying to say with my ranting and posting is that these things would make the game better imo, and would add a touch of realism along with it.

@wagstr I think it’s less frustration and more a interesting train of thought
It's equal parts for me. I know it's a silly pirate fantasy. But I feel we're starting to get more fantasy than pirate. Having both be somewhat equal (even if just in looks) makes the other more outlandish and interesting (imo).
@a10dr750
I actually don't have much of an issue with that. It serves a gameplay purpose and that's okay.
I'm simply trying to find ways the game can improve. I've grown tired of glowing cosmetics and skulls in every single thing. I don't dislike the items or the style, but the impact of how different they look is lost with the addition of more and more outlandish ones.
I dunno, maybe I just have a problem 😐. I want to know if people want these things that way, because then Rare can go all out towards that design and esthetic. If people only want fantasy cosmetics and boats, why not go all out with it? I'm all for weird fantasy looks and elements, but it feels weird that progression is tracked by how much my boat or character glows in the dark.
