Community Day-saster

  • This isn’t a rant. Just some observations and speculations.

Disaster: 1. causing great damage.; 2. highly unsuccessful.

I can’t say the first definition applies here. If you think it does, you may need to rethink your priorities. Just maybe.

The second definition, however, I believe is spot on. This was not just unsuccessful. This was highly unsuccessful.

To me this Community Day was a disaster. And frustration all around on all sides. The players didn’t want the servers to go down and neither did the devs.

However, Community Day was an event that was hyped by Rare for a while now (at least two weeks). And with all the incentives given to entice players back to the game and cause an influx of players during a small window of time, I can’t help but think that IT would have anticipated the challenges this could cause and take the necessary precautions.

I don’t know why the servers were down. Was it only because too many players were trying to sign on at one time? Wasn't Rare hoping for a lot of players to be on during this event?

As a player I only know that the servers were down for most players for an inordinate amount of time during a time-sensitive special event. Someone had stated online that the servers were hacked. But I have read nothing from Rare to corroborate that statement.

My hope is that this is not a portend of things to come.

With the closing of Arena, previous server issues (with G&G), hit reg, food reg, bucket reg, etc, the bug list seems to be getting longer with every season that passes. Is this a symptom of bigger problems? I hope not.

Personally, I hope only good for this game and the devs and the community. I truly want it to succeed. I know the majority do as well.

On a positive note: Rare wanted us to tweet; mission accomplished.

    Cheers!
