Deck Cleaning/Marine Life!

  • After sailing a certain distance of meters, Barnacles. Marine growth and Seaweed should start to accumulate on the ship.

Ladders could be slippery as well as parts of the top deck. Let the sea matter build up too much and the ladders will be inaccessible.

On parts of the top deck, you will be more likely to slip overboard.

A push broom could be created to help keep things clean and tidy.

Maybe if you're a pro Pirate crew you'll let the green slimy gunk build up, a deter to would be tuckers/boarders.

If not added to the ships, it would still be cool to see large patches of seaweed around each island's shallows. If you pull your boat into it unaware, your boat will take longer to turn or sail out of.

When swimming through the seaweed, you'll be slowed down and blinded like the plants blind. You could then be able to grab a bucket of the matter and blind others similar to the puke effect.

Either way, I would love to see more marine life of some sorts that's interactive and not just visual.

Hope all you Pirates are having a good week, CHEERS!

  • I'd probably implement slippery decks as some kind of a attack a event boss releases to harass you while you fight it.

Seaweed could be interesting, although it might be more annoying than fun, depends on how strong it is.

  • These mechanics seem to come from solo games like Black Flag, yet I don't see them working for SOT. Always keep in mind the balance of pvp/pve SOT provides when thinking of new mechanics.

  • Players have enough trouble watching the seas for ships and flat out sailing.
They dont need extra work to keep the ship tip top shape. Heck, some cant even fish while sailing :(

  • I don't mind seeing cosmetic changes to the ship over time during a session, but otherwise, no.

  • @themadlad94 True! Could be a revamp of the Kraken, could be something totally new. And yeah, if they do add seaweed, it would most definitely have to be balanced so it doesn't either become irritating or overpowered.

  • As a cosmetic chore that could be turned on and off in the settings this is cool.

No to any buffs or debuffs.

What if you have it on, but a crewmember has it off?

It amazes me how so many pirates forget about their crewmates... 🙄

  • I would love it as a cosmetic change, but as the others said anything more than that should probably moved to something like the kraken or some other event/boss.

And I do like the sound of seaweed patches. Along with that, more coral reefs, and fish outside of schools of fish, would do wonders for making the world feel more alive. And the extra challenges of navigating past the seaweed patches and the coral reefs could be fun, as long as they're not overdone.

Then you would see it and a crewmate wouldn't.

Players are able to turn rats on and off individually and choose if they want to see them. The rats don't actually physically affect anything on the ship so can be treated like a graphics setting. Ship decoration could be treated the same way.

If barnacles growing on ships do not have buffs or debuffs, they could be treated like a visual enhancement which could easily be individualized the way rats are.

Granted, I personally like the idea of it not being a graphic setting and ships actually getting barnacles the longer they are on the sea. Particularly if they sail over a certain amount of miles in one session.

Your crewmate just wouldn't see it? Rare literally did this exact thing with Rats. If your crewmate has them off but you have them on, you see them, but your crewmate doesn't.

I was referring to the non-cosmetic variation.

  • I don't want to do chores.

I was referring to the non-cosmetic variation.

But you quoted someone that said "as a cosmetic chore" and said they didn't want any debuffs. So they were talking about the cosmetic version, which you then replied to them to ask about the non-cosmetic version. Doesn't make sense.

    Touché.

  • @mistuhmarz I support this topic only in terms of cosmetics. Washing the deck is fun, but no more.)
