Grog's a Little Watered Down...

  • Glares at the innkeep and places hand on cutlass

    So. @deckhands
Did y'all nerf grog for Grogmany?
3 should have had me projectile vomiting a new camouflage pattern on my Sloop. Like 1 slammed used to do lol.

  • @pithyrumble Threats of violence towards Tavern staff are taken very seriously....come to think of it, why is there no weapon check policy at the door....Duke would have been all over this...

In all seriousness though, is the Grog effect not more amplified now? everything seems more....wiggly?

Looks at 20 flintlocks pointed at me...

    Ummmm... no.

It seems weaker tho. I expected and planned on finding a Chest o' Grog but not having to drink a gallon instead of a few pints.

  • @triheadedmonkey Actually is the" seawater down" effect that the customer in question is complaining about. After 3 mugs as soon as you hit the water the grog effect vanishes. 4 mugs full would do the trick though.

  • As a solo I'm quite salty about how long it took to spawn a shark, keep it from despawning while getting sick, and getting the kill in that short window

  • @wolfmanbush It helps taking a couple of sniper shots on the shark before getting wasted to deliver the final shot.

yeah I was just getting unlucky on the rng of the situation

I did a solo OG fort amped up on grog and firebombs in less time than it took me to finally get the shark

but anyone that saw me on the seas today got quite a show so that's one nice thing.

  • @Deckhands yo can we get a 1000Grog chest boost for the event lol

  • Pirate Drunken Master Style 😎

  • @pithyrumble nerf it is! Passed on the request!!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO0OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO[[OO[OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @wolfmanbush I bet it was. Running after chickens and pigs while wasted was no picnic either

  • @pithyrumble does it actually take 3 full glasses before I can complete any of the challenges?

Yes, that is why it is so annoyingly difficult. And you have to stay inside a certain threshold or it doesn't count, either.

I'm glad I am done with the event.

I didn't particularly care for this one and I did Sunken Curse.

  • @personalc0ffee sunken curse would’ve been a lot better if you got a couple breath of the seas.

  • I had an idea, and if y'all like it I'll post it separately. A new item, let's call it "Pirate Legend's Keg of Grog" that you can rarely find buried on islands. It sells for a very good price at the Merchant Alliance, but you can also fill your tankard with it, and it magically refills itself. The grog itself has 2-3 times the strength of normal grog, and perhaps has some other special effects such as, I don't know, making you glow or something. Just having mobile kegs in general would be fun.

  • Been trying this event 2 days and so far got 7 OCs, 1 treasure, 1 animal - and that's it... To say this event is unnecessarily hard is an understatement. The fact that the ocean sober's you up makes it even more so.

Sunken Curse was the event for destroying 200 mermaid statues. You can read more about it here: https://seaofthieves.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sunken_Curse Breath of the sea was not in the game at the time, and I don't even think it was an idea, at the time.

Players often quote the Sunken Curse as being the most unfun and tedious of events. That is why most of them do not own the full Wailing Barnacle shipset.

To me personally, this is one of the most unfun events I've done and I've done them all.
I found it very frustrating at times and it is supposed to be wacky and fun. But having to drink 3 grogs and keep up an invisible threshold of drunkeness, was just not fun. It is also not fun when it bugs out when you hit the water and removes the drunken effect, making you have to drink 3 again. It is frustrating when you clearly do the goal and it doesn't count it because unbeknownst to you, when you were trying to do the task, you sobered just enough it doesn't count.

  • @pithyrumble It definitely wasn't watered down! I can't complete the event due to the nausea from the motion and ringing that makes it bearable for me. I will miss out on this one. I got one chest dug up and that was enough for me.

  • @inboundbomb Sorry to hear this matey! If you have a crew I believe some (if not all?) of the challenges count for everyone on the crew...

  • @musicmee Thank you sir. I will see if it works with my crew. I just figured that most of the stuff lately has gone towards the individual and not the crew this would've been the same.

I was bait for the sharks and shot it twice, my drunk crewmate shot the shark for a third time - we both got it. Same for the chests (can't bury and dig up your own though, it is I think only those from Gold Hoarder voyages, so not even from the board) and the other ones.

Thank you very much! Glad it's confirmed. I may be able to do it if I lower the volume down because the ringing definitely messes with me.

  • @inboundbomb
During our afternoon session we hardly got anything done - during the evening session we decided to first do some Gold Hoarder voyages to find a Chest of 1000 grog. That on deck helps a lot - also can take it to an island with a supply of firebombs for the skellies - just running around a rock, filling your tankard with grog every round and throw fire.

LOL. This event was all I had planned myself yesterday but after trying to dig up a chest 4 times just killed me solo. Most likely easier with the crew chipping in.

Wouldn't advice solo, have someone finding a digspot and standing there and the other gets drunk and digs at where the person stands.

  • @lem0n-curry Yup, this is what my crew did.

  • It's still possible to do solo, (i am solo and only have to firebomb skellys and beat ocean crawlers to complete the event) it's just very difficult. Took me 3-4 hours by myself to get the 2 annual tankard.

  • I have done it solo thus far. I still need 1 shark, 10 skellies, and 1 chest.

    Oh I feel for you.

    It is such a pain.

Are you still working on it? Maybe I'll come help you.

  • @personalc0ffee I kinda don't care for the title, only wanted the tankards tbh. Thanks for the offer though! 😊

    What about you Galatic Geek?

Half the time I lose it to the water, and have to start over. I even lose count of how many swigs I have had! 😮‍💨

I frequently don't have enough firebombs, or skeletons, and chasing animals while drunk was a right pain.

The easiest ones so far have been the OCs (no bombs required) and the ship - the latter of which was busy doing a shrine, making it incredibly easy (I repaired their ship, left a bit of loot behind, along with a thank you message). 😊

Dude, I don't know what's up with that, that's never been a thing. You could splash someone yes but sobering by being in the water, has to be a bug. Shame it took this event to find it. It is VERY frustrating. I had to just use cannons because it would just keep sobering me, then it's back to the ship to down 3 more grog and hope it don't happen again.

So frustrating but I'll still help if you want it.

We blasted this guy farming gems at an island. He later sunk in the Kraken and we "recovered" his gems. This guy had like 20-30 gems. Made bank at gold rush.

  • @personalc0ffee ohhh sorry, I thought you meant the Sunken Sorrow Curse, introduced in S4. Also I wasn’t aware the Wailing ship set took any commendations to buy.
