Helmball & Barrelball Balance & Rework suggestion

  • Hello boys, I'll be short and blunt.
    These balls suck, everybody hates it. Barrel ball at least has its use by preventing skelly ships from planking but they are complete GARBAGGIO against players and I believe it's about time we could tweak them into something useful, so here it is:

    Helmball: Prevents interaction with the wheel and performs a hard turn on the opposite direction the wheel was positioned the moment it got hit. Effects last for 6 seconds.

    Barrelball: Full rework into Slippery Ball.

    Slippery Ball: Makes the surface of the ship slippery and prevents planking holes/cracks for 8 seconds.

    Thoughts, suggestions, anything. Pls consider? :3

    I personally think that Helmball is great just where it is. One time I was being chased by a reaper, I quickly turned and helmballed them, and they went flying into the east side of Plunder Outpost while I used the time they lost to increase the distance between us. Another thing I can do is when a ship has sails up, turning towards me, one tactic is to use a helmball to force them to continue turning past where they want.
    Right now, Helmballs are really great when used right, and forcing a turn would ruin their usability in the scenarios that I use it in. Helmball is the most underrated cannonball in my opinion.

    I agree, barrelballs are the worst purple curse. But denying anyone the ability to fix while making bucketing harder is downright OP. With storage crate transfer, I use storage crates for supplies a lot less, and so this cannonball hurts me a lot more now. The only change I would see Rare making to the Barrelball is making the duration longer, but I think they are just fine with making some cannonballs better than others. You don't want every cursed cannonball that someone can grab to be as great a cannonball as anchorballs. That way, everyone can have plenty of curses, but maybe only one cannonball for a specific scenario.

    You can deny people from picking the masts with rigging balls at this point. Not being able to repair ain't the end of the planet considering you can bail at will until the effect wears off.

  • That slippery ball would be cool Tho the cannon ball shall be bright yellow with a banana symbol on it and its name shall be called from hence forth "Deck O Peels"! And of course, bright yellow smoke while it's in the cannon and also when you hit your target.

    Fixing a mast is not as important as preventing your ship from sinking. The curse you suggested would be preventing you from doing that more important task while also making bucketing harder because of the slippery floor. As a result the cannonball would be quite OP.

  • I would love to see them fix those two, and venomball as well.

    Helmball would be way more useful if it could be thrown.

    Barrelball could be made way more powerful if it emptied all pirate's inventories back into their barrels.

    Ooh, I like that suggestion! In addition to how it works now, that'd really mess them up! 🤪

  • @creumeister I think the helmball is ok as it is...maybe make the effect last longer
    Barrelball could be usefull, if the effect would last longer and also affects the crates on the ship
    Imo these changes wouldn't be that drastic but they would make those CCB more effective

    Extending the effect time on the helmball and barrelball would both be welcome changes imo.

    As well as potentially making barrelball work on crates as well
