Suggestion: Health bars Update?

  • I was thinking why we can't see improvement on health bars? I mean since there is so much new staff be added into game like example tornado encounter fight we can't see the boss health bar to see how much health it has left. We also can't see how much health has left on own crew members to aid them giving banana if needed.
Rare devs please update this health showing system into improvement way.
This could be easily work same way as names are working when you see non-crew member near by. When your crew member has took damage and is not fully health it will show up under crew members title. And it goes away once player has eat enough bananas for full health once more. If you see other crew member near by and non full health then the health bar goes away just the same way if you are too far of it as name plate works.. You get the picture. Something like this improvement I wish to see in SoT either optional option or not since sometimes it can be hard to know who needs eat food most to cover they wounds.

  • @danuliz tornado encounter fight, that's a good one 🤣🤣
    Ashen Lord would be correct...
No need for a health bar, I like the minimal UI...it's dead, when it's dead and you can tell how long it takes by the 3 phases the ashen lord has...

Well sorry if i use it that way... But idea can be put either on or off in accessory option you know..

Its not just your "ashen Lord" event but other boss fights as well or in pvp or just aid own crew if someone needs health. Sure you may like it as minimal Ui thats cool and fine you don't have to put it then ON if you don't want to but there is other players out there who may wish to have this option if they wish to see health bars on NPCs or own crew members or in pvp.

  • either optional option or not since sometimes it can be hard to know who needs eat food most to cover they wounds.

If this was in the game there wouldn't be reason to have it off.
It'd be feature like Crew Status Tags (shows names and locations of your crew mates and what they're doing from miles away where as without it you can only see them if they're in your sight)
Way to powerful in fights against other players and useful in PvE situations, like against ashen lords. And in situation in which your crew mate is low on HP without any food I bet he'd be asking for food way before you reach him to offer your banana.

I my self like minimal UI in more casual or rpg /adventure games such as Minecraft or Sea of thieves and prefer to have as much knowledge as possible in fast phased or competitive games such as Overwatch or... hm, in any other fps game.

For me multiple UI's somewhat ruin the adventure experience as they make you feel less connected to the world and due to that I've turned off the ones I can. Seasonal notifications as an example as they offer nothing and are just annoyance. Some UI stuff is necessary like name tags as they tell who you're dealing with and titles are just a fun roleplay addition.

Like I've already claimed health bars would be to useful for not to be used. Crew mate health bars could be added but I fail to see what they would add? Maybe if we had throwable potions crew health bars could be useful.

  • I'm fine with optional boss healthbars. See no reason not to add it.

You and others may missing the point of this health bar idea. Like I saying the HP-bar Ui does not need to be anything big to ruin minimal ui experience. Besides it wont stay there forever if crew member or other crew member eats up into max. It happens same way as if you took damage and the health bar comes showing up until the health is back max.

  • I remember Rare saying a long time back, they don't really want these kind of immersion breaking things because it's too "gamey" and everything they try to do is lore based and in-world explained.

    👆 Basically this. 👆

@Danuliz I'm sorry, but Rare already said NO to such an idea years ago. It simply doesn't fit their vision.

  • what about Pirate's looking nore beat up, bruised, bleeding, whatever, the closer to death they are?

That wouldn't fit with the rating of the game.

  • there are other behaviors like banana cronching that indicates the captain/boss is low on health. This works well enough as it maintains the immersion.

  • @danuliz

If this game showed health bars of non-crew members...at least you'd know when you got hitreg'd after shooting someone.

Other than that....meh....that seems a little MMO/RPG to me.

  • A lot of people dislike the idea of crew tags already, and personally I don't think the screen needs another tag option. If it's implemented then it's something that will be used by everyone as not having it would handicap one during pvp encounters. Furthermore, having a 4 vs 4 crew would mean that potentially you would have 7 other health bar sliding around in the screen at any given time (And here is to hoping that more people don't join in the fight). The overall effect is an annoying effect that removes one from the experience.

On the ashen boss fights, u can tell how much health they have based on their behavior. They have 3 stages of the fight where they introduce a new moves, each stage is activated every 1/3 of their life that is taken out. I believe that future boss battles should develop upon this idea.

One thing this game has always been praised for is the minimalistic form the hood ui takes, it would be detrimental for the game to continue to add labels or increase floating shapes that the player can find on screen

The seasonal labels and text images are already extremely annoying. Thankfully it does not provide any form of combat advantage, but having it on tends to remove one form the immersive experience, most notable during tall tales.
