Does anyone else feel like the menu music is always depressing? Only time when it's not is festival of giving when all the shantys play there.
My suggestion is to keep the shanties playing there all year long, instead of the depressing music you can hardly hear.

a bittersweet symphony? a bitIt reminds me of the underwater sounds in Donkey Kong country. What a great time the mid 90s were. Deep enough into technological advances to have fun but we weren't into the belly of the beast yet. People could still live locally and everything wasn't world wide. Fights were just during the holidays and things were still a big deal but not everything was a big deal.
The only platforms people had were holding cardboard signs outside of a Kevin Smith movie with the other grandmas and annoying neighbors with Rage Against the Machine and Beastie Boys while playing SNES and Nintendo 64.Like Richard Dreyfuss typed at the end of Stand By Me "I never had friends later on like I had when I was 12, does anyone?"

Not depressing but bittersweet
Hello Sir , the menu music , and i think you mean the music just before you start to select which kind of ship, crew and so on you want to choose , may let you feel a bit gloomy... It's Autumn after all, and Mother Nature is going to take a sleep...
The Music Team of Rare can perfectly adapt to all kind of things , ranging from their own themes from updates or seasonal happenings like Halloween and so on... If you feel a bit depressed from hearing music then it's not the music to blame for . Maybe it's the time of year that's depressing you , it's late light in the morning , but the darkness returns quite quickly again in the evening or better said late afternoon...
The months November / December always call up gloomy thoughts to myself , sometimes quite dark ones but the trick is to counter that by talking to someone you care for or can trust or in my case just play some happy songs so i can forget the darkness and lonely feelings and prepare me for a spring where everything and everyone will come back to live...
For the game ...it's simple , don't linger on , just start your game , invite thy Friends , or be brave and jump into an unknown Crew and let yer voice thunder over the waves ... A True Pirate can never be downed by a sad tune because he / she is sooo free that we, nowadays people , envy their Freedom...
Set aside your gloomy thoughts , pick up that rapier and swashbuckle away...

No, that's called The Maiden Voyage and that one is good too but my ultimate favorite is Adventure Awaits. I remember listening to this FOR HOURS on launch day because the game was having server problems haha.
