how is this not a thing? we should either be able to buy atleast 1 empty chest or a ship should come with a empty chest to start
Buying Empty Chest
@madfrito99 you mean the treasure chests? Are you serious? Almost every session I have 10+ of them on my ship...especially now, with the sunken kingdom shrines it's so easy to get them...there are 3 or 4 in every shrine I was...what comes next? Maybe treasure to buy, because you don't want to find them?
@schwammlgott Hey man, you're not wrong, but there's no need for that. I think @madfrito99's idea isn't necessarily wrong but not really necessary like you say, although, i wouldn't be opposed to a "basket" item, that can carry trinkets/skulls and stuff much like a treasure chest. Perhaps one or two can potentially be found lying around an outpost, to either use at said outpost or take out on the sea.
imo the worst was already done. The advantages for gold were already brought in. The significant effect to the environment was already brought in with supplies so it's not like there is much of an argument against this stuff now
they chose to go that direction so at this point it doesn't change anything to bring the QoL stuff in. The baits and the storage chests etc.
We've long been leaning away from work for it so just from a consistency perspective it makes sense to offer them for sale.
Not a fan of it myself but that's how it goes.Oddly enough as this idea would get a lost of disagreeing, but since Season 2 introduced the ability to purchase supplies from the merchants... This is honestly a worthwhile inclusion in the long run. Carrying skulls/trinkets isn't necessarily meant to be a riskier endeavor than carrying chests or crates around, but its tedium is reduced significantly with collector's chests.
The reality is if you're not some kind of PvE player that grabs anything that shines... or did anything that doesn't easily reward you a collector's chest (Ghost fleets, most OoS voyages, unlucky skeleton ship sinks, defeating small island emergent skeleton captains) before turning in, you'll be carrying a bunch of trinkets back and forth, which can be annoying, time consuming, and even more disadvantageous seeing that in a panicked scenario, turning in small objects without a collector's chest will put you in inevitable danger with less to turn in simultaneously.
Purchase these things either from a GH representative, or with the cost planks and a price of gold at the shipwright and you get a single collector's chest per crew per outpost per 5 in-game days, like the merchant supplies. There, at the very least there's a sensible balance now that the purchase of supplies threw our expectations out of the window.

If you are desperate enough you can buy an ashen key and chest voyage.
this really drives home the point that they might as well figure out a price and offer it imo.
Something I just thought of while typing this is what about a trade system with the merchant?
we can turn in empty storage and cannonball/wood crates in exchange for empty storage chests
this would clean up the seas of all the extra items that surely isn't great for servers to have all over the place
and could work the other way as well.
empty fruit/cannonball/wood crates could get a storage cratecould be something that might be able to be worked out
Yea, this may as well be a thing honestly. Along with Bait as others have mentioned here (and elsewhere) too. Treat them all in a similar manner to the Merchant Supplies on offer now. It wouldn't do much in throwing off balance, is logical, adds QoL for various playstyles, and provides even more currency sinks for people.
