Dye system.

  • For a game that says cosmetics are its progression it is sorely lacking a fundamental system.

Yes, i'm talking about dyes and yes there are hair dyes and underwear dyes but i'm talking about everything else!

If i see a clothing set and i want it to shine in all the colors of the rainbow i should be able to!

If i see a hull or sail that would be perfect if only it was a different color, i should be able to change it to that color.

Honestly, if an MMO can have a dye system then SoT can and it is frankly a crime that it doesn't already!

Queue the disagreements and backlash or criticisms because rare can do no wrong and change is bad, boo hiss... etc etc.

  • @cptstrongman ahoy matey!
The problem with this is that fundamentally we see re-skins of older designs used to denote different versions of an item.

There are already different colours of various items in a set and I guess that goes back to the idea that cosmetics earned in the game tell a story about your pirate.

I'm not saying there isn't scope for it happen - just why it perhaps hasn't.

That's fine. I'd prefer a base clothing set you earn with the shape and design all in place and then be able to change the color of it at will. The way they have it right now is limiting and honestly kind of stupid.

Plus they could just tie certain dyes to commendations, that way you still have the ability to tell a story with your pirate. IE...

THE VANQUISHER OF THOUSANDS OF SKELETONS! -bone white dye.

  • @cptstrongman If it's brand new gear that has flourishes etc that can be changed then I'm all for it, but I think the old stuff should be left alone.

Lore-wise we could have someone in the clothing merchants realise they have found a new type of material and/or dye that can easily be washed out and re-applied by pirates...

  • @cptstrongman Issue is the many sets that are recolors of other sets, and some sets that are reskins of exclusive ones.

The Weatherworn boots are a recolor of the Ferryman boots. The Ferryman ones are super rare and exclusive, it wouldn't be fair if one person bought the controller code and the next guy over can dye his to be the same.

What would happen to the Rogue, Renegade, and regular Sea Dog sets? They're all recolors of one, would the duplicates be removed? Which one would stay? Why?

Or the new Scorched Forsaken Ashes set... what's to stop people from coloring it to match the original, time limited one?

I'm all for adding a dyeable set or two, but not dyes for all items. Like a dyeable hull that you can match to any sail you like. No special pattern, just colors.

Alright while that's a reasonable response, an actual dye/color-shifting system would have done away with all these unnecessary recolors. While I'm glad I have more things to spend my gold on, even I feel a little underwhelmed because anything that has a unique style costs ancient coins or is an incomplete set anyways. Some of these concerns have been mitigated to be fair, but people want to spend gold on original sets instead of stacking up a currency that has no negligible way of going down after fully purchasing the DA cosmetic set.
