ship lanterns

  • new and mid skilled players will turn their lanterns off on their ship because they think it makes them sneaky, better players know that the render distance for ships in this game are isnt very good. a ship out of render distance will appear as a default ship with lanterns on making turning lanterns off do nothing. please rare extend the render distance so we can turn out lights off and be sneaky

  • Current ship render distance in perfect conditions is like 6 squares...which is the distance between Ancient Spire and Shiver Retreat.

Anything beyond that I think would just get OP...you'd be able to stand atop The Glorious Sea Dog and see nearly everything...

  • @doomscorp turning your lights off does effect the render distance silhouette. That’s why my friends and I turn them off if we’re trying to stay off of people’s radars.

  • @doomscorp ohh...you're such a skilled player...🤪😉
Without lights on, parking at a big island it's hard to be seen from a certain distance...sure it doesn't matter in open waters or on small islands
Edit: for example, stay at Lost Gold Fort, when a sloop stays at the dock from plunder outpost, it's not easy to spot that sloop without the spyglass, even with the spyglass at some daytimes it can be hard...not so with the lights on

  • yeh but there comes a distance where it doesnt do anything which just from my experience is the distance i see other pirates more often than not. but hey everyone plays the games differently and thus different experiences and things theyve learnt themselves

Render distance is not affected by lights on or off. Less noticeable yes. I can easily spot ships at dark without lights. On a side note other than the map table lights provide zero benefits on the boat.
